Between the BHM thread barely having any activity over a whole month and this women's day thread, non protected users seem to be done posting in what would be considered sensitive threads like that.
Opening the women's day thread and seeing it was started by Delphine would make me do a quick U-turn out of there.
That thread makes me laugh because it is just so over the top. It's like they think they're in the trenches fighting for their 'rights'. Yet the notion of 'women's rights' is such a nebulous thing. When they say, 'rights' the majority of the time they mean 'attitudes'. And
perceived attitudes at that. That perception might be warranted is some cases, and in others not. The fact remains though, even if Western attitudes about women were still incredibly sexist, attitudes are still not the same things as 'rights'. There is nothing in the law stopping women from doing anything.
That said, it is
International Women's Day, so when talking about rights it is perfectly legitimate when spoken on a global level. Which is why I find it so funny how conspicuously absent any talk of Women's Rights outside of a Western context is.
I watched that video in the OP: A Global History of Women's Rights. Narrated by what seems to be a black African woman, who goes on to talk about
Western history of women's fight for equal rights. A global history (lol). What about African history of women's rights as well, since you seem to be from there? No. Then goes on to talk about shit like equal pay. What about the Middle East? no. It's so funny because it is clear that a person of colour from an under represented country was explicitly picked for this video, yet any talk of very real legitimate rights claims is absent.
