I understand that there's good reason to distrust most white people, but it feels like a wall that I have trouble breaking down. It doesn't stop me from working with or being kind to people different from me, but I always find myself on edge in early interactions which makes real connection difficult.

Same shit the Black Lives Matter movement did with going into libraries and calling white folks racist or whatever for attempting to leave because they were annoyed while trying to do work. - no one banned, thread stays open

If I said "Are all Americans uneducated?" and pointed to a society that devalues education, ranks low in educational standards compared to the rest of the world, had a huge gap in income inequality where people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds went to college less, you'd say "Well, sure, but not all Americans are uneducated."

But surely, we live in a society where education is less important than other things. I am a teacher and I can tell you from the 10 year old books that are falling apart to the programs that the district can't pay for, to the outdated technology, education is just not a high priority for the government, at any level, for any party, at any time.

It would be hard to argue for the American educational system. Indeed all Americans are affected by it. Plenty of people are in a position to do something about it, be it on a local level such as my job, or on a state level, or on the federal level. Parents could take a more active role in their child's education. Yet I have no expectation of this problem getting better. I don't see people trying.

So the American educational system is something that affects all Americans, it's a problem that creates systems of inequality in achievement (affecting generations of Americans), and it's something that's unlikely to change. As a matter of fact, it looks likely to get worse. The worse part is that your average American doesn't really care all that much.

But...are all Americans uneducated? Still no.

I don't really want to discuss education in this thread about racism, but I just want to point out how you can discuss the various aspects of an issue that affects huge amounts of people, and still not arrive at a generalization.
