The voice actor is a black man. I'm in the camp that doesn't believe that black actors acting hammy is necessarily a stereotype. Black people are allowed to be loud and angry, funny and sweet, and Barret is all of those things because his character has a lot of depth.

I think it's notable how a lot of black folks enjoy Barret and appreciate him for who he is while white folks cringe and think he's a stereotype. I think the black community is better at identifying nuance in black characters while white people (no offense) only look at his surface layer and automatically deem him a stereotype.

I also think there's some level of meta racism going in where people get angry to see an angry black man. It's like how people get angry when they see Colin Kaepernick kneel, or BLM protestors. Something about black anger brings up a lot of emotions in white people for some reason.

This was concomitant to several accounts compromised, with the hacker puppeteering a number of messages and threads saying they tried to contact the admin team but were forced to make a public demonstration after being ignored. Both problems got brushed under the rug. B-Dubs had a very politician like apology that was locked quickly and sank out of view.

Oh yeah, B-Dubs is the acting manager since Cerium basically said he would just cash the checks in but have no involvement as a forum member. That was after the trans summit, I think ?

BCT had a summit for them and their thread was made private. I think Nepenthe was promoted admin too at that time. May or may not be linked to B-Dubs embarrassing past. The BCT summit was pinned to the top of the board for a while but didn't reach 3 pages.

Most of PC ERA went and made their own forum after they felt being antagonised and trolled one too many time over the Epic Game Store discussion and lack of moderation.
Former mod Bronson Lee (who was banned or left) claimed in Twitter he had been harassed and racially abused over being overly apologetic for EGS, up to naming names... He never actually, despite being confronted by one of the guys he accused, provided any copy of those "threats" and "abuse". If you are inclined to cynicism it would seem said abuse was people pushing back at him being "just a launcher bro lol" in their public messages.

Asian-ERA has been vocal about how a lot of their members decided to fuck off the site in droves.

PoliERA imploded last week over having to put up with Bernie Bros, Socialists and the hostility to Biden (or in less petty terms, became the latest victim of the neverending witch-hunt that ERA is) and a lot of its regulars vowed to leave to join a new Discord.
