I thought that thread about slaves being used on console production lines might cause people to think twice before buying a next gen console this fall. It got to about 12 pages before it fizzled out and the mods unpinned it.
People are happy to fight the good fight when they don't have to sacrifice anything. So sad that the bridge too far is video games.
I mean yeah... But the logical conclusion to that argument is pretty much stop buying consoles (and that probably extends to PCs and smartphones) and videogames. It's always going to be a bit of a non starter on a gaming forum. 12 pages is somewhat decent, honestly.
Raising awareness, deflating the mindless constant hype and injecting some thought are all noble goals. There's probably even an alternative "fair trade" model to promote in there but there's no place for consoles and a heavy bias against major publishers.
Ironically, if ERA was ideologically consistent, they should disband the gaming section or become a niche forum mostly covering indie games. It's the antithesis of what ERA is, both as a delusion of importance for some of its users and as a viable commercial venture.
