I had been staying away from this thread for awhile. I just didn't want to be in the thick of sadness before I posted my thoughts.

I remember how happy I was during the Black Panther release schedule. How I'd listen to that Run the Jewels song and watch actor interviews. I remember opening night at my mall's AMC, how black people decked out in dashikis and Marvel merch were gathered in the lobby in what felt like the spirit of a family reunion, people having a good time and making new friends. I remember my best friend coming up in a cute Black Panther t-shirt and how annoyed I was that I hadn't thought to buy something similar. I remember roughly where I sat upon filing in, and every single scene I laughed at, and every single time people cheered or exclaimed on that opening night. I remember the applause that came when "All The Stars" signaled the credits. I remember in the time after, where I would get chances to participate in the pop culture in earnest by doing the Wakandan salute, or trying to make a play in a video game and screaming "Wakanda forever!"

I remember being happy for those months.

I then, remember, how not long after, thinkpieces started coming along saying that the film was overrated. I remember people saying it was culturally disrespectful. I remember the alt-right trying to miserably co-opt it into an example of the wonders of an ethnostate. I remember lots, and lots, and lots of white people- a few on here even- saying it wasn't that good, or that they didn't get the big deal, and asking black people to explain the big deal. I remember people started in on Boseman as T'Challa, saying he didn't carry the movie at all and was boring, much to my shock, as I loved his performance. I remember how people were insistent on trying to tut-tut to black people for understanding Killmonger's pain, and how he wasn't that good of a Marvel villain.

I had soon forgotten how happy I had been with Black Panther, with T'Challa, and by extent with Boseman. Even when he was getting roles I would just go "oh neat." And even in subsequent Marvel showings, I couldn't muster up as much excitement.

I had forgotten, and I am angry with myself that it took Boseman's death and the outpouring of black grief to make me remember such a happy time in my life.

So, despite crying at the end of writing this, I really don't want to be sad. It's the least I could do for a man who must've went through the ringer with his body to provide what is- despite my forgetfulness and others anti-black misery- what was undoubtedly one of, if not the biggest, seminal moment of black representation in pop culture that we have ever seen, an absolute milestone, one that I was lucky enough to witness first hand and share with my people.

Chadwick gave us something beautiful and paved a path forward for representation. That is something to celebrate, and to never forget.

Rest in Power, King.

I would say it's only a matter of time before someone on Era kills someone in a moment of political violence, but it's not like it matters.  The internet at large is getting more open to that in general, right and left.  This is likely to be the norm going forward, and keeping track of it will be a fool's errand, whether it be big platforms like Twitter and Facebook, or niche communities that have been radicalized like Era or Somethingawful.

Hey, ERA mods, this is pretty simple. If you advocate for murder, you get banned. If you are a mod or admin that does it, you get stripped of your position and banned as well. Not fucking complicated at all. It certainly doesn't need multiple thread locks and restarts and multiple bans being flip-flopped.
