PS now is so bad. I picked up a year when it was on sale for like $45 (I think there is a similar sale right now). And yeah, I’ve downloaded and enjoyed a half dozen or so games and streamed a couple old JRPGs but this month really pissed me off when the September free PS+ games were announced and I saw they were lifted right from the PS now library. I know I’m a dumbass for paying for both, but really Sony? Don’t you want people on both services??

the issue with PSNOW is it would absolutely fuck with sales of first party games as they're all single player games with very limited replay value,

 so if you change the model to be more like GamePass it would sure as fuck hurt them financially over time.

An Apology to Chinese Era Members

Two months ago, I was banned from Era for 'xenophobic generalizations'.

I had commented in a thread that was asking whether China would become a game production powerhouse soon. My reply was that it was unlikely. My argument was that the curbing of freedom of speech and expression in China coupled with the massive amount of propaganda the CCP was pumping through the society was having a strongly negative effect on the creativity of the society.

Firstly, I was obviously wrong. And it makes me incredibly happy that I was wrong (though I regret posting that wrong opinion). Look at Black Myth : Wukong, a martial arts action game made in China that looks both stunning and imaginative. Or the original Autochess mod made by a Chinese studio. Or the latest Xiaomi phone that has an invisible camera behind the screen, allowing for a first-in-class notch-less display. Some of the most incredible digital artists I follow on Twitter are Chinese.

Beyond these, there are probably hundreds of examples of creative and innovative games, movies, books, songs and inventions by the people living in China that I'm simply ignorant of.

I'm deeply sorry to any Chinese folks I hurt with my ignorant, xenophobic words.

There can be no justification of it, of course, but I hope it's okay if I explain where the thought came from.

I'm Indian, and the government of India has been strangling our freedom of speech. They are shoving fascist propaganda down people's throats, and imprisoning, torturing and lynching those who dare to speak up.

When the government started beating up students, I caught a deep fear that they would do to us what the CCP was doing to the people in China.

Feeling helpless and angry, I wrote a poem of protest and put it up on Twitter. Barely days ago, a poet had been jailed and tortured for doing the exact same thing just a couple hundred miles away. I was painfully aware that there might be consequences.

All these thoughts culminated in me comparing India to China, and dreading where we were going as a society. I wrote something xenophobic here, and I take responsibility for that. I regret it, and I apologize for the hurt caused.

That said, I do believe that Art suffers under dictatorial regimes (as do artists). I'm living in a society quickly descending into dictatorship, and I can feel my wings being clipped.

To quote Kurt Vonnegut, "I sometimes wondered what the use of any of the arts was. The best thing I could come up with was what I call the canary in the coal mine theory of the arts. This theory says that artists are useful to society because they are so sensitive. They are super-sensitive. They keel over like canaries in poison coal mines long before more robust types realize that there is any danger whatsoever.”

Lastly, to be clear, I oppose the fascist CCP, and remain deeply worried about what they have been doing to the Uighurs, the Tibetans, the people of Hong Kong, and dissidents and pro-democracy activists in China.

This post is in no way a defense of the actions of the CCP. At the same time, I would request people to not repeat my error and write something that may come across as xenophobic. The CCP isn't China.
