Okay so related tangent here...

Our guest room is called "the Harry Potter room" by our sons. See we painted it dark blue, then we framed these old letters my wife had that her dad wrote to her mom when he was in the Navy, and then we got this black metal bed frame and this funky black metal candle holder thing, and all those together started to make us think of Hogwarts. So then we had added this weird silver antler thing, then we put the HP books on a shelf...and I added a framed drawing of Hermoine from an artist I love, and before we knew it the room had a low key HP magical vibe, complete with wands and a marauders map we picked up at Universal five years ago. We totally look like THOSE elder millennials. You know, the ones who look like they can't let the series go, despite each of us only reading it once like a decade ago.

It's just that it's a room we don't even really use. Except now we have someone coming to stay at our home to watch our dog while we're out and we're like crap...how do we quickly transform this to something else? We got this black metal bed frame and this cool magical looking candle holder, so something vaguely fantasy would be cool.

With the new consoles coming up and major companies try to build up game streaming with huge 24/7 always-operational server centers built with gaming hardware, there has been almost no mention of how unsustainable this constant tech cycle actually is. The production of gaming hardware is incredibly energy-intensive with the mining and smelting and assembly of electronic components being more and more consuming. And already in 2020 we have horrible fires, hurricanes, floods, and dry and this is only the start.

Yet Sony and Microsoft or whoever still want to churn out hardware every 7-8 years that once again means 50-100+ million units of these devices comprised of rare earth minerals, tons of labor, and all of this stemming from massive consumption of energy in the production and usage of gaming hardware. And then we also have this push to game streaming that not only requires gaming hardware once again, but huge server centers, constant electricity usage, and high-speed internet. The carbon-dioxide emissions from just playing a few hours of any game is just ridiculous.

On top of all of this, you have people talking about revenues, growth and expanding the market and how important sales of new devices are. You even have people talking about gaming in 10 to 30 years as if the current way of doing things can continue. Like, have anyone looked outside their windows? And seen the environmental damage and mass extinction going on? And the social unrest? Business analysts and media reporters seem completely detached from reality and the world we live in. Do people in games media and business analysts just willingly stick their heads into the sand and ignore the problems we are facing? Or do they just not care? Is the mass delusion just about ensuring constant growth and profits and everyone is afraid to question this premise? The world is already on fire, yet gaming tries to continue as nothing has or will happen.
 
We can't keep having console generations and we can't keep consuming energy and labor the way we are doing, yet the games industry just keeps on doing the same thing over and over again, as if disastrous climate change, social unrest, and mass extinction isn't a thing. The hypocrisy is so unbelievable to me. “I care about my guns, let me live the way I want!” Then they hear “ I’m a woman that wants control of my body” and they’re like “lol nah”. Or they hear “I’m a black man who doesn’t want to be shot by the police” and they’re like “lol nah yall asking for too much; blue lives matter”.

anyways, my point is simple. Some people don’t have a choice. They exist and their existing is political in and of itself

Like does the general public just not know about it? I spend a lot of time doing my own thing so outside of ERA i MIGHT not have known about it, but i expected to see a bigger presence going against the game
