I've worked in the medical field for several years and would like to give a heads up to people who feel like they're in the dark on this subject.

Whilst the term "disfigurement" is not generally considered to be ableist, "burn victim" - the term used by the author of the tweet to refer to their partner, is almost universally avoided in a healthcare setting, along with the once common "stroke victim".

People tend to have quite a strong emotional reaction to being labelled a victim by other people, especially years after the event when they have made their recovery.

It's always good to be inclusive in the language you use and fair play to Ubisoft for addressing this situation, but I wanted to address the author's use of language too as I found that part a bit baffling.

There's a valid point to be made about treating people with disfigurements as resentment-filled baddies, but because the twitterer used such a shit medium and made their complaint so nebulous, people are hung up on the usage of 'disfigured'. Given that the tweeterer was laundering a minority opinion and using problematic language (victim?!), should they now apologise and rewrite their tweet?

The issue I take with it is that it's his interpretation of it. He sees the problem in the narrative of the game, while Ubisoft's response focuses entirely on "changing the language" and yet he describes the response as great.
