It's really sad. Ree just proves a lot of the time the right's talking points.
I think cancel culture is stupid. I don't think it's new. It's not like decades ago you could say anything you want without consequences. Say you don't think Jesus is real or that maybe the communist have some good ideas back in the 50s and see what happens.
It's just now we have the internet and what people say is more permanent and widely available. So if you say something stupid which is your right, expect either your community or your job to respond. Which is also thier right. It's not an attack on free speech.
But at the same time you can't demand someone lose thier job because they have a viewpoint you don't agree with. JAT seems like a nice guy. He has some dumb opinions I don't agree with. But he's not out here saying anything terrible offensive.
The NFL thing is problematic sure. But its within his right to not like politics in the sport. Do I agree and can see the logic that he has problems beyond that? Sure, but it's not up to me judge and besides it dosen't 100% make him some awful person. He's a white guy who dosen't probably think about race issues all that much. You know what? Big deal.
I'm a straight guy and and honestly I'm not going to pick up that Volcano High game because trans issues and whatnot don't appeal to me. Am I against them? No, but I'm not a monster because that message dosen't excite me.
The china virus thing is dumb. People believe dumb things. People can subscribe to things that have a racist angle. It does not make them Nazis.
Ree needs to not demand that people's lives should be destroyed because they post dumb Trump things.
I think Trumpers are idiots and some of them come pretty close to coming off as Nazis. I think a lot of those Neogaf posters frankly scare me. But ree really needs to cool it sometimes.
