If nothing else, it's nice to see the shoe on the other foot when it comes to people wanting to be respectful over a the death of a public figure. You can't say "the guy just died" when you're constantly dancing on the graves of others. Still interesting that the site's general manager was the one to either break their rule on obituary threads or genuinely considers the tacked on rule of "done thing so heinous" about the guy. Because if it's the latter, that bar is pretty low and I would hope no one is getting banned over the deaths of even hardcore progressives down the line (assuming the site lasts long enough). Bernie would certainly not fit their criteria of "didn't do heinous things", but I guess progressives are kind of souring on him in general thanks to his friendship with Joe.
On the topic of ban logs, the fact Era doesn't have one is an anomaly for a forum like this and pretty clearly invalidates the early promises of transparency. The ban log at Somethingawful never caused any problems, and the people over there are more rabid about dumb shit than Era. The fact staff thinks it would cause problems is a pretty strong indication they don't trust their userbase in the slightest. So people are going to seek out alternative ways of seeing it, which means giving places like KF clicks. So good job for sending people there I guess.
