Tonight is the first time in months I've felt anything positive about America.

I truly feel that this election is a proxy civil war. It's not a civil war through violence but through finding the vision of America we truly want. If Bernie wins I'll stick around to see where it all goes for a at but I'll still be preparing for a potential departure. Especially since Trump and co. are already running with RUSSIA WANTS SANDERS which will be four years of Republicans calling the election not genuine.

My cynical self thinks this could lead to violence since Fox news will run with it and those types tend to fall to violent means.

So even if Bernie wins we may very well still lose. Even more reason to get out.
okay, Michelle Obama :doge

it's a good state with a pleasant mix of city and nature.

Yet for some reason they are flooding to Texas.  Must be all that mixture of nature in the city.

Anyways, no idea why you conservative wankers are in this thread.

Setting up a business in France

Quote
If you’re looking to work in France, since 2015 France has made it easier for foreign residents to set up a business in France.

If searching for jobs in France is not your choice and you are considering setting up a business in France this article will provide you with the guidance needed. According to the Ernst & Young G20 Entrepreneurship Barometer report 2013, it’s easier to start up business in France than most other G20 countries: it’s cheaper, there are fewer steps and it takes less time. You can go through all the procedures required to set up a small to medium-sized business – even one of up to 50 employees – in as little as four and a half days.

Quote
If you want to start a business in France you’ll need to have a residence permit, or be an EU citizen and you may need to have qualifications or diplomas that are recognised in France. Then you’ll need to research the market, make budget forecasts and financial plans, and if necessary look for funding. You’ll have to select your legal status and register your business. This guide explains more on setting up a business in France below.

Reading comics in foreign languages is a lot easier than novels. Looking at the pictures and using your English vocabulary will get you far. Once you've read Tintin you should also try Asterix, Spirou, and Lucky Luke. Belgian comics are fantastic.

Getting a work visa as a photographer will be difficult. Photojournalist might be easier though.

I want to do children's books, graded readers, and comics and then move onto full on novels and hopefully poetry, by the end of the year.

I'm already a fan of Franco Belgian comics so I know which are good to start with. Thanks for the recs tho. The Incal in French :hyper

France, UK despite brexit, Spain, Germany, Canada.

I like to think Cindi left NL off this list specifically because of the shitty posts.

Yes. I've never had a good experience NL people and I know nothing about their culture besides the casual racism from the outside.

Huh?

Yes, I'm pretty sure they did which is because there are so many images of it. It is the most documented Holocaust and tragedy in world history. Images change minds. They also expand worlds and show the truth. Many Jewish photographers shot within the actual camps because they realized the importance of doing so.

I said nothing of their sacrifice. I merely said visiting a Holocaust museum was very important to me and hopefully it can give me true penance from my prior racism towards white people by improving race relations.

The fact you do not see the importance of documentation or why someone would strive to document makes you look like a fool. The only reason anyone knows of many atrocities is because they were shot. Through photography I get to blend multiple pet subjects: visuals and politics/sociology.

So fuck you.

Atrocities have been captured since the dawn of mankind. Why would a visit to a Holocaust Museum have anything to do with you choosing photography as a career. That is just the weak minded liberal pansy ass mentality that has you wanting to run to France. Boo Hoo, Trumpy makes me sad face. Everything is bad. Fuck you, I have an incurable disease that was named after a Nazi Doctor that did horrific shit during the Holocaust. No fun runs and ribbons for our cause. The Hunchback of the Notre Dame ain't a children's book.

Le Petit Prince is probably the most famous one. Maybe try Les Fables de La Fontaine.

Well, 2016 made me realize I want to impact the world in a good way before I die.

I've always had a predisposition towards film and was going in that direction. And then upon chance, I bought my first real camera. It was a film camera and I loved taking images on it. And then I noticed I loved taking pictures of humans, notably candid moments with gestures. I found myself drawn to the works of Cartier-Bresson, Bruce Davidson, and W Eugene Smith. The more I shot, the more I realized I had a talent for it. And the more I shot the more I realized why I shoot. Some days I would shoot 200-300 pictures on film. But it was all just street photography. But then, on a lark, I visited a Holocaust museum and realized the true power of photography. Surrounded by images I've seen multiple times in my life I saw them through a new and different context. These people's stories were told to the world. Before then, it was a hobby. I took it much more seriously afterwards and looked into making it a potential career.

Any hopes for filmmaking dropped. While film is great for expanding minds and telling others' stories, unless it's a documentary it's going to be manufactured. But with photography you capture the real truth. And the people live on forever.

I have since gained mentors who believe in my ability to shoot. Being able to record the world as it is entices me. I want to tell other people's stories. As someone likely with Asperger's, photography is also a great way to help me analyze the world. I feel very small in life. But when I shoot I get to show proof that I existed. So that before I die I know I will have showed the world something about humanity.

Also you sound genuinely dumb.

Not surprising given you are a conservative. Stop wasting my e-space, Nazi. Get out of my sight.

Actual youth books both from personal memory and looking it up. None of it will work if you're starting but once you would get a little further it might be helpful :
Le Petit Nicolas series, written by Goscinny.
Le Petit Prince by Saint-Exupéry is a big one.
Charles Perrault's Tales
Aymé's Tales
Un Sac de Billes by Joffo
Poil de Carotte by Renard
Le Lion by Kessel
La Chèvre de Monsieur Seguin by Daudet
Vendredi & la Vie Sauvage or Le Roi des Aulnes by Tournier
La Planète des Singes by Boulle

Tintin au Congo is but the rest of the series is mostly fine.

Starting with the Blue Lotus, and his real life meeting with the person he modelled the character Chang after, Hergé was a lot more committed to doing some research about whatever foreign land he used in his albums instead of just parroting the stereotypes popular with the Catholic and conservative milieu he was publishing in. From that point on there's nothing as egregious as Congo though there's some questionable stuff (Black Gold, for instance).

Once you've read Tintin you should also try Asterix, Spirou, and Lucky Luke. Belgian comics are fantastic.

:rage :rage :rage

Asterix is 100% French (Goscinny - Uderzo). Lucky Luke mostly is Franco-Belgian because that was its best era (Goscinny - Morris).

:rage :rage :rage

Cindi: I'd also recommend watching french dubs of cartoons / animus. Even if you don't understand 100% of it, it's also a good way to "absorb" the language and can be less straining than reading.

Mangas / Animes have always been huge in France so you can find a ton of stuff really easily.
From DBZ to Franco-Japanese creations like Ulysses 31.

I'm coming from Japanese (my second language) where learning via cartoons is a waste of time and will make you sound like a lunatic.

I hear The Simpsons is amazing in French (not the Quebec dub).

Cindi, another thing you can look into is working at a multi-national. A lot of them have exchange programs where you can work at another one of their overseas offices for a few years as an expat (one of my coworkers went to London for a while and we got someone from their French office, and of course we have a ton of Japanese expats).

Anyways, Paris was a lot of fun when I went back in HS some 20 years ago. My father taught HS French for years so I've grown up learning the language... though I'm definitely super-rusty nowadays (the last time I got to use it in any capacity was when I visited Montreal in 2015). I remember the plus-que-parfait being super difficult in particular.
