I’m not trying to be a dick about it, it’s just something rather personal for me considering there was a couple years in elementary(primary) school where I relied on those free lunches.  My takeaway from the comic is a general “police get money to police troublemakers, some who might be troublemakers because their schooling needs weren’t attended to in a push to ‘save money’.  Maybe if schools have more to support their kids, less of those kids will decide that crime is their best option to make it, and police wouldn’t feel like they need more to do their job.”

My wife is a public school teacher and while she easily spends 400-500 OOP for her classroom, it's usually related to special events and incentives for the kids. She's not reaching into her pocket to buy general supplies.  Also, the Government realizes this and offers a 250 tax credit to all educators to cover some of this. It should be 4x that.

American schools also provide like a million societal functions they shouldn’t like feeding poor kids

schools are as much childcare institutions as vehicles for education so we might as well just make them actually good at that function also.

:idont

I’m all for it, no one else doing it. Just saying it’s not fair to compare what we spend on schools per student when our schools are responsible for much more than schooling in their communities

Anyways, my limited perspective about  schools in America is that they prioritize learning tools over teachers/building maintenance. Then the teachers/administrators feel compelled to fill out budgets every year with marginally useful materials in order to keep those budgets maintained. There's a lot of waste because of this.  They'd rather spend 100k on smartboards or other tech instead of hiring a new teacher or upgrading a facility.

yeah, some of this isn't even under control of the school or the school system, just moronic budgetary/bureaucratic realities

you have ten money buckets and you can't take money out of the widgets bucket and put it into the staffing bucket, instead you have to spend all of the money in the widgets bucket otherwise you've proven that you will never need that much widget money in the future, likewise for every other budget

Far-right British politician Nigel Farage left his LBC radio station job on Thursday, a sudden departure following his controversial statements this week comparing Black Lives Matter protesters to the Taliban.

“Nigel Farage’s contract with LBC is up very shortly and, following discussions with him, Nigel is stepping down from LBC with immediate effect,” LBC said in a statement. “We thank Nigel for the enormous contribution he has made to LBC and wish him well.”

On the island, some of the high-level administrators are pulling in 500 grand a year... it's ridiculous.

It's an adjustment to gross income. Those are good but significantly worse than a tax credit.

Also, while no one really gives a shit about $250 in Minecraft, the necessary and ordinary test applies to any expenses included in the adjustment on a return that are not enumerated in the relevant portion of the Internal Revenue Code.

This concludes InKKKome TaKKKs KKKorner. :money

That was powerful shit. I couldn't sleep after I watched it last night.

Dave is the same age as me and you can just hear it in his voice. He's pissed nothing has gotten better since the early 90's when all of this same sadness, bitterness and despair consumed the nation.

As a young person you just assume (hope) that it will get better. The old generation dies off and the new generation that replaces them will do a better job. But all these fucking cops killing black people are from our generation. The generation that was supposed to know better and do better.

It's then when you realize how malignant systemic racism is.

Didn't later research show that the people that built the pyramids were actually treated well. They were paid workers, not slaves. And they held banquets or something to make sure they were well fed.

Seattle is a typical metropolitan city, largely full of educated and cultured types. As with any metropolitan city, the police are generally not that. They have been lying and falsifying their situation, and trying to set up the citizenry who are against their peddling of violence for some kind of fail. But they’re not smart enough to do it right, and are being caught out in their lies.
