I’m sorry, did nintex just say the Dutch police have to be violent because.... stoners?
In Amsterdam yes.

When you exit the train to Amsterdam you already smell the narcotics.
You know that distinct smell when someone is smoking weed?

Every inch of Amsterdam smells like that.
Whenever I go to Amsterdam the police is always trying to get some poor sob in a psychosis under control or an ambulance is trying to save some poor thot from her overdose.

Lmao are u nuts?  :lol

But meth isn't a narcotic.  Narcotics are a specific class of drugs.  It's not just a synonym for "drugs"

You mock him, but that was THE statue of George Washington of Portland. People all over the country made their annual pilgrimage to pay respects to that particular statue.

There is no other way in this country to honor George.

Speaking of ...

“We’ve heard the concerns of many people who have been hurt or offended by the team’s previous name, and I’m happy to say we’ve now rectified the situation once and for all,” said franchise owner Dan Snyder, adding that "Washington Redskins” will be replaced with “D.C. Redskins” on all team logos, uniforms, and apparel. “It was a difficult decision—and one that, frankly, I’m a little embarrassed took me so long to make."

I wish I could comment but now that the statue isn't there I no longer know who George Washington is.

I tried to look him up in a history book, but the text on the page was fading away, like the picture of Marty's parents in Back to the Future.  :'(

There is a point in bemoaning the loss of a building or work of art that a culture deemed important like Notre Dame in Paris for example, but this statue  is as close to mass produced as you gonna get with statues.

It's a slippery slope. If we allow statues to be destroyed it won't be long before statues that actually matter are demolished. Like for example the Washington monument, destroyed because it is the phallus symbol of capitalism.

We already went from: "He's just a slave trader lmao" to: "It's just Churchill and Washington lmao"

I was against vandalizing the beautiful metro of Ukraine by removing communist art and I'm against taking down other pieces of art.

On one hand, removing statues and corporate logos is the kind of fake progress that America thrives on. It does nothing to really change the systemic racism that allowed those things to exist in the first place.  So, if you came at it from that angle, I would understand your derision of it.

On the other hand, there needs to be a reckoning in America. We've deified our past in an effort to give a young country a sense of shared history so we wouldn't fray into 10 different parts during crisis. That's why all these problematic statues, logos, flags, practices were allowed to exist for so long. Keep this leaky ship afloat. But that deification is now working against us from allowing us to change into a modern society. It's become a quicksand that keeps sucking us back under.

So maybe pushing over a Washington statue and being okay with it is a baby step in ending those mental shackles.

The FDR Memorial in DC has him sitting and it's got a statue of his little dog right by it. Making it both physically and emotionally difficult to attack.

Well most of the Confederate monuments around the country came years after the Civil War, many 100 years later around the time of the Civil Rights and Voting acts. I'm sure that's unrelated, though. Founding Fathers statues coming down (and I think literally 2 have been pulled down) won't pick up steam except for the particularly bad ones.

Quote
Eventually they started to build [Confederate] monuments,” he says. “The vast majority of them were built between the 1890s and 1950s, which matches up exactly with the era of Jim Crow segregation.” According to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s research, the biggest spike was between 1900 and the 1920s.
https://www.history.com/news/how-the-u-s-got-so-many-confederate-monuments

There were many more memorials in the wake of the civil war (1870-1890), but those were to commemorate the Confederates that died in the war and not individual leaders.

Today there was a protest battle in Hoorn. The police protected the statue of Jan Pieterszoon Coen, Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies

Quote
Despair not, spare your enemies not, for God is with us - Jan Pieterszoon Coen

In any case the whole protest movement seems to have fizzled out here in the Netherlands.
Crowds are smaller, only the more aggressive types remain.
