For anyone confused, there's two abortion cases at the Supreme Court.
The Texas case (SR8) isn't really about abortion. Yes, it's about abortion and only exists probably because of abortion, but it's really about whether or not a state can effectively require civil penalties to use a constitutional right through an never intended technically limited loophole.
The Mississippi case (Dobbs) is just straightforward about can you restrict abortion before so many weeks. This has always been the one anti-abortion activists are truly focused on and are hoping will be used to overturn Roe.
The worst case scenario is that the Court first uses Dobbs to overturn Roe/Casey, and then because abortion is no longer a constitutional right they dismiss the SR8 case as not being relevant. (I suppose, technically, a worst case scenario is they uphold SR8 regardless, but I don't think the Court wants to go that far, they were all pretty skeptical at arguments. That's why the "actual" worst case scenario is they do what the Court likes to do and dismiss for any reason they can find which becomes an option if they gut Roe/Casey first.)
