Is this the first time in modern political history that both Florida and Ohio were irrelevant in deciding the winner? Beautiful if true.

Good day.

Didn't sleep at all on the first night. Was pretty nervous until 3am when Biden took the lead in Wisconsin and then was pretttttty safely done if people were right with Az hold.

Then stayed up to see Georgia flip last night and was fucking AWESOME  :hump historic moment there.

Still annoying they haven't called it everywhere after PA flipped. Hopefully if next batch of votes takes PA over like 35k difference they'll all call it and be done.

Trumpers did really good, their turn out was insane. Like so many fucking crazy people.
just Democrats did even better, thankfully. But goddamn it was close.

If Republicans can keep this level of turnout for non-trump GOP, Democrats are in serious trouble going forward. But it's pretty unlikely since it seems more a Trump-cult, less GOP-cult. I guess we'll see in 2022 when Trump's not on the ballot.

Congratulations, America. Too bad about the Senate.

Senate's not over. Will hinge 100% on the 2 GA run-offs in January. Will be the 2nd biggest election in the last decade or two because the next two years will ride on it.

also, fyi without the Senate though, Biden still gets to:

-Undo 90%+ of everything Trump did, since he did 90% of his shit through Executive Orders instead of legislation
-Replace all the corrupt departments like Justice Department, FDA, CDC, EPA, etc...
-Restore foreign relations and trade deals

That will literally takes most of the first 2 years of administration just to do. The two big things they will lose in those years without the senate is any ability to change the supreme court makeup and anything drastically progressive voting rights act/police reform. If they take senate in 2022 (which is an extremely favorable D senate map) they can do all that in the second two year period.

Covid stimulus package would still get through as the R states need it badly.

aka, getting the Senate would be really, really good, but it's still ok if they don't get it.

Last day for the up to 8890 unaccounted for military ballots to be received. Be real funny if they could have won it for Trump but can't be included because of the rules Repubs laud.

Eh, most likely that's just who never sent them back. I don't expect anything at all from those in GA.

There was a diagram showing how many people in PA requested ballots from various designations and how many of them actually returned their ballots. Was only like 83% for Ds and 75% for Rs.

Clinton won without Florida in 1992.

But JFK did have Florida and Clinton did get Ohio. Actually I looked it up and went back to 1848 (Florida didn't become a state until 1845), and this seems to be the first time somebody has been elected president without carrying either of those states.

That opens up the possibility that candidates will give a shit about what the other states think. Very exciting!

I think Trump is just a crazy outlier, in so many ways. I'll be interested to see how Ohio votes when he's not in the race next time.

People have been saying that Ohio is getting more conservative for awhile, though. Young people moving away and older people becoming more single issue (guns and abortion).

oh god this will never end. They discovered a software glitch in a MI county that gave 6000 votes to Biden.
Now that they've recounted it by hand it has flipped back to red. 47 counties used the same software and it was used in other states as well.

it sounds like it did make a difference, but not on a presidential level - an incumbent republican was surprised to learn that he lost his local election, but wasn't going to challenge the results, but then when the glitch was discovered it handed the win back to him

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/oakland/2020/11/06/oakland-county-election-2020-race-results/6184186002/

however everyone involved acted maturely and sensibly and it's a perfect example of the system working the way it's supposed to work

like the article says:

Quote
And the process worked apparently without regard to politics. A Republican city clerk supervised a vote count that wrongly gave victory to a Democrat, after which a Democratic county clerk's staff caught the error and requested a correction from the Republican city clerk, handing the win to a Republican.
