let him have his recounts, it's the final binary outcome. you'll either knee-cap the whole stolen election narrative before it becomes a permanent national schism and show him up in a way that even his most fervent and paranoid zealots couldn't deny, or he'll somehow win and usher in a 1000 year reich where he's demonstrated that democracy can't be trusted.

Just watched Rudy make his case. It wasn't very convincing and mostly about the issues discussed earlier, Republican election watchers denied access.
Those computer glitches seem more worrying and in some cases proven but 3000 votes here or there isn't going to change the overall outcome and most of it seems to have been corrected by now.

Biden won it much like Trump, with relatively small margins in a number of important states.
It was closer than people expected and Trump ran up his numbers among African Americans, Latino's and other minorities.
In all fairness the conservatives should be happy with their result likely taking Ohio and Florida from the swing state board and holding onto the senate.
Wisconsin and Michigan were always an uphill battle, traditionally 'blue wall' states that Trump took because Clinton didn't appeal to those people.

Trump likely would've won if he started wearing masks in February and kept the COVID response going as he did at the start (closing borders, building military hospitals etc.) and keeping the stimulus going.
If you look at Macron and a bunch of other world leaders it is clear that Trump's working class 'forgotten men and women' appeal had an effect on world politics for generations to come.
He was just always the odd choice to see it through and drifted further and further away from reality in the White House bubble.

Its still insane that without covid he would have won easily
Probably, but also if his COVID response was better. A lot of countries have this 'rally around the flag' moment for COVID.
But Trump didn't see it, or rather the people who he put in charge of COVID. I think that's also a reason why he lost. Trump might be popular but Kushner and Pence aren't.

Covid probably boosted his numbers. Might've been a bigger D win without.

Half the country or more doesn't care about covid and hates wearing masks and sees lockdowns as tyranny. Trump meant no more lockdowns, no masks. It probably motivated these people even more to come out for him.

Covid changed absolutely nothing for voting or next to nothing. Republicans/die hard Trump fans have not been swayed by how horrible we've handled it as a country. Most conservative people I unfortunately have to be around still think it's a hoax or don't believe it's affecting anything.

yeah a rejection of his leadership due to the covid response makes rational sense, but if FB is any indication i don't see a lot of rationality wrt pro-trump voting sentiment. my hyperreligious extended family and their circle, the kind who think pokemon are demonic and the world is destined for hell, are pro trump because 'jesus doesn't always pick good people to do a good job' despite the dude representing every secular vice imaginable in the most extreme manner possible. they're simply total hypocrites who just desire political influence and want the world to bend to their will. it's just a matter of most of them dying out, to be harsh, as this weird fundamentalism picked up around the older generation and will live with them. i'm already seeing people talking of retreating to the bible belt lmao.

Trump supporters are idiots. They call people sheep while eating up this fraud narrative based on the fact that Trump said so and that the things are called "mail in ballots". There's no reasoning with those people.

The push for mail-in voting by the Biden campaign might have gotten him more votes, too, since mail-in is incredibly easy and people don't have to wait in line for hours and hours.

Republicans actually favored mail-in ballots. Down ballot they were really worried about Trump attacking the practice because in some states their base is old and exclusively voted with mail-ins.
In some states it gives them advantages into election day that Trump eroded. The overseas military obviously, also votes by mail.

They got Trump so far that he tried to make a distinction between 'absentee' ballots and 'mail in' ballots. The biggest irony of all is that of course the Trumps themselves used to vote by mail.
There will probably be plenty of books written about this campaign with all the details, no doubt about it.

Because it's the democrats who are cheating or something.

If, and that's a big iffffff, D's get the senate they already have an all new voting rights act drafted and ready to go to start fixing a lot of this bullshit voter suppression that's been put in place.

Even if they have to wait until 2022, and get the senate then they could theoretically pass it before the next presidential election.

If I were the democratics in senate/executive/house right now, the first things I'd pass if I got a majority is re-instate the fairness doctrine to curb disinformation (there's no way to completely stop fake shit going around, but you can definitely lessen it by a huge amount if you cut it out of official channels and clamp down on FB/Twitter/etc...) and pass a new voting rights act.

If people in this country could actually get reality in their news and everyone could easily vote, the majority of the other issues with the country would take care of itself over time imo.

I don't think so. We're not talking about like fundemental change of who can vote, but rather just new laws to prevent types of voter suppression like voter intimidation and stuff.

The house has brought up and I think passed new Voting Rights Act laws several times in the last year or two but the senate has just ignored it. If D's have the senate they can pass one.

Like just googling, here was a time a bill was brought last year in the house on it:

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/03/democrats-hope-restore-key-section-voting-rights-act/583969/

Also after John Lewis passed this year the House D's wanted a "John Lewis Voting Rights Act", but obviously Senate just ignored it.

I'd add that I think the 3rd biggest issue preventing the country from working things out on its own (because deep down I actually do believe that the majority (~70%+) of people in America are decent people), is gerrymandering.

But I think if they could get rid of the fake news shit and more people could vote, we'd have more people in government redrawing districts more fairly and with accurate census and gerrymandering would work itself out.

All feels like dominoes to me. Fix the brainwashing and let people vote and things will fall in place.

The problem is that one party knows this basically means they would lose almost complete power over time and so they'll do everything they can to stop it.

The most ironic thing is that if the Republicans just stopped being racist, the population makeup change would potentially keep them in power, since a lot of various minority groups that will become majorities are fairly conservative, especially in religion.

Nah, he's not going to destroy his golf courses. Overall, I'd be more concerned about enemies taking advantage of this lame duck period.
For example, the Taliban could make moves in Afghanistan knowing the Trump peace deal is off the table. Or Bibi knowing that Biden would be less supportive of his plans could decide to move in on Gaza and the West Bank.
Just like when Trump and Obama first came into office the new President will be 'tested' to see what he does when boundaries are crossed.

Those fragile Middle East peace deals seem the most at risk by a possible foreign policy shift. Trump could call and scream at country leaders not to blow up each others dams but now no one will give a damn.

He was a capable, sane leader not driven by his ego which he put before everything else and continues to do now.  Trump being elected president of the United States was crazy enough, but the way he is going out will forever be a complete embarrassment.
