I’m one of those people that likes to try to make my birthday feel important. I know many people I’ve met have pushed aside it as another day, but I enjoy celebrating the day of my birth and getting to spend time with people.Just had my birthday and…well it wasn’t what I expected. I took the day off from work and hoped to relax/spend time with people. Came home and I was forced online by my job to do something for 10-15 minutes (which upset me because it feels like they didn’t respect my off day and I’m not allowed to say no; I work M-F 9-5). Half of my family was gone later in the day until almost midnight (had to grab my sister from college) and the other half didn’t really spend time with me outside of dinner. Didn’t really do any official celebrating, no cake, no birthday card, gift, etc. Noticed that barely anyone reached out to wish me happy birthday online, way less than usual.I know, I shouldn‘t complain. Most of my adult birthdays so far have been most festive and doing cool things, so I think I had my expectations too high. It is also the late middle portion of the work week, but never have I felt this much of a nothing burger to my birthday before. I think I failed myself in not really having much planned. Just felt really lonely and that it wasn’t really special. Which was really deflating and maybe more in terms of what I should expect going forward - just felt really meh. I wish I could of done something fun with my family or my girlfriend or just in general. Here’s hoping the weekend can make up for it, but nothing officially planned yet.
