In short, I think these kind of scholarly pursuits are hard to control once they leave the halls of university and any theoretical framework that establishes race and racism as a major controlling factor is going to be used by people to advance their own political interests. CRT is objectively bad for nothing else than the weapon it gave the American Right to scare lay people into thinking minorities in America want to establish a minority lead coup that would eventually lead to white genocide in all but name. The reason the Left is so bad at countering this false narrative from the right is because no one actually has any control over how and where CRT is used and interpreted. Some who write under the auspices of CRT stop just short of actually calling for a separate and controlled white ethnostate. The motte-and-baily you mentioned has been successfully jujitsu'd by the right, claiming the left wants to teach white kids that the are inherently bad because of their skin color, which is the Baily to the Motte that all people have inherent bias that needs critically examined.

I actually think this is a case where the outrage isn't even what should be the actual concern. If a teacher is teaching kids that they're bad because they're white, like whatever, that kind of thing happens all the time and there are processes already in place even if weak and unsuccessful to deal with this. My concern with education is more what it says about the state of the field that it is yet again getting taken by a pseudoscientific grift (and a rather obvious one at that) and one imported blindly from law schools that doesn't even purport to have an upside. At least when corporations and administration take them up they're doing it to help avoid racial discrimination lawsuits and to keep out the filthy uncultured poors. (And enrich the often fellow whites who run the scams like Robin DiAngelo.)

For more microcosmic example of how this gets out of hand, the 1619 project is objectively good on paper but in practice it ended up being worth less than the political backlash it caused.

This is another good example of where the popular outrage wasn't the actual problem. There's no problem with The 1619 Project except it's bad history. But bad history is totally normal! What's not normal is the author being publicly petty and vindictive and smearing all her critics who point out factual errors as racists and then not only doesn't correct the errors but makes things worse by removing actual sources for quoting Kendi. Still the popular backlash mostly ignored all this to create a now apparently defunct 1776 Project while everyone involved on "both sides" completely ignored all the actual credentialed historians who had to publish on WSWS or overseas.

The entire discussion makes little sense. When I worked in event management, my company sometimes collaborated with a large LGBT club, so I got to know many of their staff and performers. Not a single transvestite performing at the club was trans, and most weren't gay, either. It's just performance art. Other people just cross-dress for fun. I was like oh shit I have maybe 20 minutes to get to a hospital so I got in the car with some people and for some reason Chris Chan was driving and he took us to his house and I was like WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DRIVE US TO YOUR HOUSE, I AM DYING HERE and he said he got confused and stressed and went to the place that made him the most comfortable

we made him sit in the back and we eventually got to a hospital but by then like 5 hours had passed so clearly I wasn't in imminent danger of death

Dan Carlin (of Hardcore History fame) has some annoying Enlightened Centrist takes on his political Common Sense podcast. Personally he's never crossed a line that caused me to drop his history podcast, and I still love him for being literally the sole person who got me to enjoy history in the first place, but yeah some of his political takes over the past couple years have been of a strong "out of touch wealthy middle-aged white man" variety. Not great, but oh well.
