An awful big chunk of this country is clamoring for a Smedley Butler "solution" towards street crime, and it wouldn't surprise me if some ambitious governor somewhere decides to use the national guard to do just that. There were a lot of people during the Minneapolis protests who thought the military couldn't possibly be worse than the cops.
They actually would be better since they have actual trigger discipline and rules of engagement.

Not saying the poster is right, but that is not a rare sentiment when the police force of a country is perceived as incompetent or corrupt (even if the military is as bad as them).
I get the idea but I'd be pretty wary with soldiers in charge of crowd control and law enforcement, even with how bad some police departments have been.
However much of a grudge you might have against US police forces, the only way you'd want US military doing that job instead is if you literally pay zero fucking attention to how the US military conduct themselves in foreign police actions (so, resetera then).
The absolute worst of the worst instances of police brutality on US soil don't hold a fucking candle to Abu Ghraib shit.
