Shyamalan's big knocks were not just a years'-long string of HUGE misses, but that string being coupled with horrible acting and twist endings that exist only to recontextualize the movie and not to really hammer home an important narrative point. Jordan hasn't even been in the horror game long enough for any such comparisons to make sense, and even then these complaints fall apart when applied vacuously to his two movies to various degrees; like, no one can seriously argue that the acting threshold in his films is bad. It is specifically because he is a non-white American horror director (have to specify because at least folks here are superficially nicer to Asian horror directors), essentially having the audacity to exist in a space that does not "belong" to him while simultaneously being good at what he does enough to stand out and be just as hyped as white directors, that certain folks on Era are rooting for him to fail. It is plain as day to see.
