Just got into a discussion on Discord about "forced diversity" being a problem in media. I've always felt the complaint was weird to be as high as it is on some people's priority list, considering everything else that's wrong with games & media. But one person's example of diversity being done right was Assassin's Creed Valhalla. I never played it, so I can't confirm or deny.
But I'm curious for those who find "forced diversity" is an issue, what an example of diversity done right? Because I can't escape the feeling of it just being one of those "want us to be seen & not heard" situations Black people always have to deal with, where doing more than nothing is enough for people to complain about our presence in anything.

"Forced diversity" isn't a thing, it's just right wing conservative whining and being ignorant assholes
"Forced diversity" just means "minorities exist" and you shouldn't give it credence.

talking about it honestly because era won't:
forced diversity is when a content creator, soulless corporation or focus group says "this cast is a bit too white even considering the asian we have, we should probably include a Black man, not because we actually value his contribution and perspective, but to appease the public who will crucify us if we don't"
or broader, "we've put out three movies with white heroes, we'd better make the next one Black and do a big marketing push about how this is the first such-and-such breaking down all the barriers"
one might think members of a minority group would oppose tokenism that doesn't truly value them, but you'd be surprised
the thing is though, even though there's a good likelihood this is happening in one form or another across all media, a shrewd creator will never literally admit this aloud to their audience, so there's essentially no case in which you can assume with certainty that forced diversity has occurred
it requires ascribing motives you can only suspect at best
so you can oppose the idea of it but only grumble impotently when people ask you to prove that it's happening
