The special in question had jokes about Asian, Black, feminist, trans, gay, Catholic, et al people. The underlying theme was nobody is above comedy. Failed to land it as Chappelle doesn’t or won’t make jokes about Islam, be it that he is himself Muslim. Or he knows for a fact they can’t take a joke and actually go outside.

I was semi-derailing a God of War thread with my extreme distaste for Kratos so I'm moving the discussion here.

Obviously some villains have misogyny as a character trait to get the player to hate them more, but some heroes are also just incredibly sexist or misogynistic as well. The names I thought up for most misogynistic major video game hero (major to ignore random Steam trash that sold 2k copies where the main character is a rapist or something)

Zidane (Final Fantasy IX): Just constant sexual harassment which is especially bad considering how much the women in this game suffer

Michael (GTA 5): Absolutely horrific hatred towards his wife and daughter and a horrible attitude towards women in general

Trevor (GTA 5): Tough to separate his psychopathy from his misogyny, but the horrible girlboss parody in GTA 5 (GTA 5 has the worst story in video game history) is massacred in the worst way possible by Trevor.

Duke Nukem (various games): He's Duke Nukem

Kratos (God of War series): Butchers a sex slave begging for her life to open a door, has sex with a ton of women after he just slaughtered a dozen people and while supposedly mourning his dead wife (who died by his hand)

Main character of Catherine (Catherine): I haven't played this game before so I can't say, but I've seen this guy brought up a lot, but again, no idea personally.

It’s such an oddly blank and soulless stare. The eyes almost seem furrowed enough to express something, but the lower half of the face is just doing nothing.

I don’t understand how a company could release key art like this and think that it’s good enough. It’s like they just took the in game idle face, which due to technical limitations it’s understandable why it would be pretty plain, and took some screenshots of it. Like why would you lead with something like this in your marketing?

 

 

One of the few times we get a Black lead (& a Black woman at that) and everyone picks apart every detail of the game.

So my answer is Duke Nukem. Those games may have cool gameplay, but the game's attitude towards women is the worst. Mysoginistic crap from 3D to Forever. Glad the franchise is dead, and hopefully it stays dead forever unless Gearbox or another developer is willing to do something that will anger the chuds.

See this is valid, absolutely. But it should also be said that there's a similar problem that goes the other way.

I really don't care who doesn't like a game and doesn't buy it for their own reasons. They can criticize a game or its creators however they want. But when people start slapping labels on other people for their own purchasing decisions, that's when lines start getting crossed.

Of course though, because I know this will be brought up, Transgender people being uncomfortable with people who play Hogwarts Legacy and/or watch Harry Potter movies is understandable. Especially considering the sheer magnitude of damage that J.K. Rowling has done and is currently still doing. This case is an extreme of an extreme.

Not exponentially more, but still significantly more than $800 billion.

Australian government spending on health alone is AU$100 billion, then you have to add in what each state is spending to fund hospitals etc and that's really another $100 billion. That's for 25 million people.

UK government health spending is £230 billion for 67 million people.

Montreal was used as the secret base for a team of Confederates attempting to launch covert and intelligence operations from Canada against the United States. To finance their cause in October 1864, they robbed three banks in St. Albans, Vermont, killed an American citizen, and escaped with US$170,000. They were pursued across the Canada–U.S. border by Union forces, creating an international incident.

This is anecdotal, but it just simply puzzles me when I see someone who is claiming to have a very strong feeling regarding a VG company and a game that releases due to moral reasons, but then proceeded to play the game anyways, day 1, and even using VPN to unlock the game earlier, even using justification saying that they have the game gifted to them and so it's okay since they're not buying it like WTF, why does it make any difference since the person gifting the game for them also give money to the company.

Since this thread isn't going to last very long:

It's really just an impossible world to live in when you're a neuro-divergent naive dumbass with way too much empathy.

Wanted to sell my Overwatch account for weeks now and already had a potential sell in sight. I could've simply waited and got some money out of it with a trusty buyer but life came and juggled my brain like in a Tekken pro tournament.

Out of nowhere and during the same day, my 22 old cat and I both got extremely sick. I've actually made a thread about my elder cat in the past but in short, he's old and back in April, he lost his ability to walk for two days. He was able to get his legs back on his own and the vet told us that he was just being old and that even though he didn't had a lot of time left in him, he was visibly way too much of a happy and healthy cat to warrant putting him down early.

So we kept him and we've been trying to give him the best last months of his life.
So of course, when I saw him get sick yesterday, I lost all and any composure. And that's right when a fucking piece of shit came out of nowhere to lie to me.

They were going to buy my account for 800 dollars, which is basically life saving money for me. And money I could've used to help my cat and my family. Heck, when they heard about my situation, they told me that the they would give me 200$ more to help me. And the only thing I had to do was to buy them a 100$ PSN card to prove that I wasn't scamming them.

Anyone with a brain would've known right there that they were being full of shit, but I was both worried sick AND actually sick myself. So I did it.
And you'd think that it would've simply stop there but nope, I'm actually much more of a fucking idiot.

They thanked me, told me that the account would go to their little brother who always wanted a big OW account. We talked and they seemed genuine to me. But really, it's just that my brain was a scrambled mess by that point. We continue with the transaction, they asked for the account first because they've presumably been scammed days before. I questionned it, they told me that they wouldn't go through with the deal and would give me my 100$ back if didn't go first in the transactions. So like a fucking idiot, I gave it to them.

They could've run with the account and the 100$ but they didn't. Probably because they realized that I wasn't in my right mind which made me a lot easier to manipulate. They asked for the email account I was using for this account, so that they could be sure that I wouldn't scam them by asking Blizzard support to get the account back getting payed.
I questionned it but eventually gave in. Why ? Because they told me that they would buy it for 1100$ total if I simply gave them the email and another 100$ card.

At that point, I was basically twitching IRL with how bad of a flu I had. Somehow, what they said made sense to me and I gave in. They thanked me, I asked them to simply do their part of the deal now. They "tried" sending me the money through Paypal but it didn't work, apparently, so they asked for another way to do so. I gave them multiple but none of them were "safe enough" for them. Which prompted them to talk to me like I was trying to scam them myself. It didn't made any sense since I had no way of getting my account back at that point but I was way too exhausted to even think about that.

And so, for the third time, they asked me for another 100$ US Card. I fought back as it would mean giving them the last bits of money I had for this month.
They threatened me that if I didn't comply, they would run away with the account and the 200$. I got scared.
I just wanted all of this to end so I could get my money, help my cat, help my family and finally get some sleep. So for the last time, I complied.
They thanked me and told me that they would pay me through Amazon Gift cards. I didn't care anymore, just wanted the money.

Two hours passed without any news, I asked them what was going on.
"This site doesn't work and my card got declined. I need to call my bank to unlock it and I'll pay later, don't worry."
That's the last message I've received from more than a day ago. They haven't given me any news since, haven't even been shown to be online.
I woke up like an hour ago feeling slightly less terrible and with my mind feeling less scrambled too, it just hit me like a truck : I got scammed really bad.

So now, here I am : Basically no money for the month. The Overwatch account I coulda used to get some money and a whole email account, both gone. Paid 300$ because I thought I was helping someone to make a gift to their imaginary brother. Still sick, still extremely stressed and scared for my cat, although he's doing better than the past few days.
I legit don't know what to do with myself anymore. Don't know how I'll manage this month.
I'l admit that I thought about putting up my PayPal in this thread to get some help but it's most likely against the rules and it's so extremely pathetic anyways. I got what I deserved for being a fucking dumbass.

I feel used, sick, sad and I am so tired of living in a world where people just do stuff like this.

I get it. I was similarly scammed out of my Steam account by someone preying on my overly trusting nature. I know it might seem like your empathy is a liability after something like this, but please hold onto it. As weird as it sounds, the kind of person who could fall victim to what you went through (due to being such a decent human being who seems to genuinely care about others even while you're going through shit) is the kind of person the world desperately needs more of.

My scam story was when I was 19 and working at Babbages (Gamestop). Guy came in claiming he was a Best Buy employee and could hook me up with any PC there for $500. I not only drove over to the store with him in my car, I actually stopped by the ATM and gave him the cash before even arriving at the store.

We arrive and he tells me to wait so he can go in the back and get the PC. Yea, that never happened.
