We have the right to tell our own stories.”

Baloue said it’s eye-opening to study the arenas where trans characters have been welcomed and where they haven’t.

“We don’t have a trans or non-binary ‘Will and Grace.’ We’re not in sitcoms. We have yet to even have truly a trans movie star,” Baloue said. “We want to write those roles for those people. This is a civil rights movement of our generation.”

Jen Richards, an actor who has appeared in AMC’s “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” and FX’s “Better Things,” said she still feels a lot of jobs go to trans people in Hollywood to check off a diversity and inclusion mandate.

“It sometimes feel like they give us just enough work so that they can pat themselves on the back and feel good about having diversity but never actually let our shows get to air,” Richards said. “There’s a lot of trans and non-binary youth today. They are future audiences and we want to give those audiences proof that gender can be a realm of expression, of play, of creativity and of joy rather than fear and loathing.”

What’s more, Richards and others said it’s important that trans creatives be allowed to spread their wings beyond LGBT-centric narratives.

The best way to make something 'uncool' is if the people who they don't want to include in their cult start to copy them. What is the difference what religions are made fun though? How many threads on this site if it is a Christian related thread or any religion how many posts are making jokes in them?

I think the difference is that some posters apparently think Islam is marginalized (even in overwhelmingly Muslim countries with strong social pressure and outright laws to prevent blasphemy) and Christianity isn't (even in countries where Christians are literally murdered by religions that have local majorities). It's another symptom of some people's inability to see beyond the particular Western country they live in.

Democrats need to pick an actual viable candidate to take on DeSantis but between the gerrymandering and Florida being a cesspool, it seems impossible to ever dethrone him presently.

No, it's being toxic and snobbish in both instances. But I don't have the same cultural and historical context and knowledge that I do for my own country's food so calling out people is harder on other fronts. Though you and others doing the whole "IT'S FINE TO BE TOXIC" thing completely ignored all context I, and others, have given... so I guess that knowledge doesn't matter much, unfortunately.

That and, frankly, the prerequisite for calling out others being toxic shouldn't be "you should call out literally all other toxicity under the sun."

The prerequisite for not being a hypocrite is sometimes complaining about the same issue when it's applied to someone other than yourself. You don't need "cultural and historical context" to know that processed cheese product is poor people food, which you've so vehemently railed against making fun of (and which most people on your side of the argument think is a valid target).

I don't have a problem with folks taking a shot at chittlins. I don't think it's toxic. But I do have a problem with folks getting self-righteous about it any time it's about something on your side of the Atlantic.
