Oh man, I was dumb to not go back to the first page of that Florida thread, all emphasis theirs:
https://www.resetera.com/threads/i-dont-think-people-realize-how-bad-the-florida-anti-trans-bathroom-bill-really-is.721459/Anything the Federal government can do?
America having its Nazi Germany moment.
I'm not American so it's always alien to me, but I don't understand how the federal government can't step in in the face of such a very immediate existential threat to American citizens.
Our system is designed around the protection of private property, not lives or livelihoods.
Anyone got a clue about this?
Theoretically, yes. But the House having a GOP majority makes it difficult. Also opens up anything done to be challenged at the Supreme Court level, which could go very badly.
Only just now making you angry?
Because this is the real reality of the anti-trans bills. The reality we've been fighting against for awhile.
If you're gay. If you're bisexual. If you're a lesbian. If you're not particularly femme. If you're not the traditional model of white femineity.
You will be impacted too.
These fascist nazi fucks are out for all of us. Trans people are just the first step.
Constitution is fucking useless.
Pretty much. Ideally we'd be adding trans people to the 14th amendment in order to get those protections and make this nonsense blatantly illegal, but that's probably a way's off.
Cis people can't even fucking act in their own best interest. It's all so fucked.
In 2016, the night that fascist fuck got elected, I wept for what seemed like hours because I knew that it was the start of a slide that would embolden fascist Republican policies for anybody who doesn't fit into their ideal cishet white archetype.
We need to continue mobilizing and striking down these draconian, genocidal laws Republicans are enacting. It will take time but anybody sitting on the sidelines or pouting or acting like their vote doesn't matter is complicit going forward.
Whether it's the assault on voting rights or the LGBTQ+ community, this period in history might as well be termed Jim Crow 2.0 but this time for anybody that isn't cishet and white. Be terrified, be angry but don't be despondent and don't give up. It seems hopeless right now but these evil fucks can not win. We must not let them win.
This is straight discrimination based on sex. Real curious to see how this plays out in court
Right, in a sane world, these laws are easy 1st Amendment violations.
We aren't in a sane world.
The constitutional right (freedom of practice of religion?) to go in any bathroom you want no matter what the owner says.

Just wait until people start calling police or store management on purpose on cis people just to fuck with the law at the slightest reason to suspect them of being trans. A law that judges people off of appearance is so hilariously dumb, and unlike racism this is going to go across racial lines.
Given that black trans folks disproportionately face greater levels of discrimination, the odds are very high that cisgender black people, especially black women, will find themselves more likely to be victims of these new laws.
It's going to take a lot more than some cis, especially non-white, women getting traumatized for the majority to give a shit.
Yeah, it isn't surprising that the GOP doesn't care about "hurting the wrong people" but it looks like this bill can easily be contested in court.
Didn't the Supreme Court recently rule in favor of trans rights? Not to say that courts aren't stacked, but there's always hope, especially with a law like this that also violates the expectation of privacy for so many different groups of people that there's literally no way to enforce it without violating someone's privacy
It’s a losing battle here. This anti trans and woke bullshit is catching on to so many people, it’s a cult at this point.
Yep. Please pay attention to whats happening here. It's beyond horrible
No disagreement there. We're definitely at the point where a lot of people are going to be on the receiving end of things that will end with them saying "they were supposed to be going after them, but now they're impacting me!"
I shouldn't have ever gotten to this point, and I would like to think that we'll get out of it, but far too many people are going to be hurt by this unnecessarily either way.
Jesus, glad I’ve only lived in the safe ones
Hate will make people stop caring about their own best interest. Look at working class racists voting Republican.
This is really some nazi shit, is mind-blowing even for USA standards, holy...
TERFs aren't real feminists, they couldn't care less
transgender people are targeted for elimination in Florida- and it really just got much less safe for everyone, as anyone who needs to piss is subject to invasive investigation by… any public employee who thinks they can visually infer everyone’s DNA makeup.
For real. When someone who was born female at birth and has transitioned complies with this law and goes into a woman’s bathroom how the hell is that going to work with this law?
That's horrifying. And I still can't understand why all of this is happening. Like, honestly. What's the long term plan? A fucking literal genocide?
What's the long term plan? A fucking literal genocide
Yes.
In much the same way that the right never lost sight of overturning Roe v Wade, they have also never lost sight of their goal of outlawing the existence of trans bodies and Queer identities and culture in general.
The easiest way to think about it, so that one doesn’t lose sleep trying to parse out the particulars, is thus: if you ain’t cis, straight, white and an upholder of the (white) patriarchy, they are coming for you eventually.
Yep, this is pretty much the GOP's endgame at this point. We've been saying it long before it begun to advance to this devastating stage, but some cis allies told us to stop 'exaggerating'. And the fact that half the country is too blinded by their bigotry and fully supports this genocidal legislation makes it hard for me to be optimistic about the future.
Stop gawking and start taking action.
I think this right here will have to happen in Florida and other red states. The moment some Republican calls the cops and they show up, every decent person, cis or otherwise, with a conscience needs to stand up and defend whoever is going to the bathroom. Make a scene, record, try to talk the cops away, and try to get others involved. Defend each other and make it not easy for cops to do this shit.
I remember seeing old black and white video of the civil rights movement, Jim Crowe era and being mad and horrified at others not standing up to help the wrongly persecuted. I don’t think any of us would be happy with ourselves for sitting by and not trying to do Something if this shit goes down in public around you.
It already is a literal genocide.
It already is literally genocide.
It's a long game plan that goes through every stage to get to the final one eventually. We're at stage 7, with disguising the genocide as "protecting kids".
Going back to "tradwives" is the point and terfs are falling for it.
Not while the republicans control the house.
DOJ might be able to sue Florida under civil rights statute? But that involves possibly going to SCOTUS and you don't really want to take that to SCOTUS with this current Supreme Court.
Splitting this post out because emphasis is mine:
Outrage over transgender men forced to go into women's bathrooms is the master plan.
They want this to happen so that "good" CIS women freak out even more which will then justify further oppression of trans people eventually leading to making them outright illegal persons.
Man that’s evil. These motherfuckers will come up with long term intricate plans to fuck over people. If only they put that much energy and thought into actually helping folks. But nope, gotta be evil. It’s much easier I guess.
Also, while all the other extreme rhetoric posted by staff and others goes unchallenged despite being insane, Princess Bubblegum's post has been edited to take the "take up arms" stuff out, only there's no "edited" message on the post. Also also, they're now "On Break" instead of a Moderator.

Be a real shame if somebody happened to have an old screenshot and we could compare:
