Looks like a very good movie to me. I want to see it along with Babel and Children of Men. Right now I doubt any movie of 2006 will impress me more than The Departed though
i really could be biased since I saw the movie with this girl I'm dating.
I think dark shake is JEALOUS. I'm going out of town till sunday, then we are going to watch the oscars at her place.

Ugh, modern day Eastwood is a CRIME. That fucker needs to get AIDS and die. He is doing cool Clint of the past a disservice.

They're generally emotionally manipulative or overly sentimental piles of shit, though. Critics go gay for that stuff if a big name (like Clint) is behind it. See also Gump.
You know what I'm talking about, don't pretend that you don't.
don't be a buttfuck. there's deliberate, mechanical manipulation that stems from calculation; and there's the honest sentiment of a director more concerned with his own vision than eliciting a targeted response from an audience. it's what separates the michael bays and steven spielbergs from the real talents and visionaries. it's the difference between danielle steel and james joyce, fagabag.
To blow certain art off because it's "emotionally manipulative" makes little sense.

It's subjective, of course
but there are movies that are so overtly sentimental that any merit they have is immediately written off, like Gump and Million Dollar Baby.
In the writing sense of the word, anything sentimental is bad. Sentimentalism goes against "show, don't tell."

What's worse is that I can think of movies you guys actually like that would fall under your broad umbrella of "sentimentality" if looked at without agendas

Forrest Gump, Million Dollar Baby, the prime mover in these movies is sentimentalism. Both of those movies could've easily been Lifetime movies Fuck, Gump is a nostalgia piece.
