Wasn't a perma ban, it's just 'til the 15th....which surprised me. I would've thought it would've been at least 4 times as long, but whateva. No regrets.
I've got to clean and repair the hot tub today and reinstall the sprinkler system this weekend so I've got plenty to keep me busy. :p
I post mild spoilers for a 3-year-old game, I get banned for 2 weeks and a special thread (consisting of my posts and others) made about my ban.
You bump a 9-month-old thread to call for a user's unbanning, you get banned for 4 days and all of the related posts are deleted.
The user in question posted nothing wrong, and is permabanned. Discussion of the banning is prohibited and usually results in a thread ending up locked.
Not to beat a dead horse, but the standards over there are really bizarre. "GAF trusts the mod's/admin's personal judgment" may be the line that's always floated, but there's a line between "personal judgment" and "disregarding rules and reason."
You're left absolutely no line of communication to explain or inquire as to what you got banned for. At least on IGN, you're allowed to send a single "unban/"ban reason?" request" to be posted to the mod/admin board, and you're immediately logged out. A mod who sees your request will look up the reason for the ban and e-mail you regarding the matter, and then you're allowed a single response to that, etc. Usually their "explanation" e-mails are the same old bullshit as any other board, but at least it's SOMETHING.
I don't even understand the whole concept of "banning" anyway. It makes sense for when it's a troll or a spammer or there's a raid, to just ban the jackasses from posting to the board. But short temporary bans for minor offenses? That makes no sense. It's like someone just took the concept of "time-out" or "jail" and just slapped it onto the internet as if it were a "virtual town." The major board software providers like vBulletin all use the same system, so it's standard. How is anything solved by banning someone from posting for a few days because of posting spoilers without intent to spoil, bumping an old thread, making a rare insensitive comment, posting scans/banned site/meme without realizing the rules, accidentally getting owned by an anti-hotlinking shock pic, etc.? It's something I've been wondering for years now. It's like throwing someone in jail for drug possession with no intent of distribution. They made a stupid mistake, but they didn't try to hurt anybody for gain.
