I don't get it. If a woman said "LOL YOU'RE BAD AT COOKING CAUSE YOU'RE A GUY!

I'd probably agree.

It's a pressure cooker.  Almost all of the top quality GAF posters have been banned, heavily reduced their contributions, or quit the forum on their own.  In their place, you got a lot of GameFAQs and 4chan refugees who might think that posting a racist or sexist joke means that they should as well.  They need to be tightly supervised more than a few years ago.

In my opinion.  EB is much better in this regard because it is small enough to know the context behind the jokes and who says them.  At GAF, it is a flood of people whose first forum joke they read was most likely SHOOP DA WHOOP.  That or former OA members looking to see how far they can push it to their limit.  Shit, I think Hans is back on with a new nick now.  I think the average OA member has about a half dozen alternate accounts, waiting to get used.

pffft, I just want her to answer whether she reads those posts carefully before banning or does she look for ":lol" and swings her hammer. There's difference between rimming the corn and choosing your words carefully.

In today's NeoGAF, there really isn't much of a difference. Kosma wins.

I didn't notice that someone had already pointed out to Dragona that she wouldn't react the same way in a thread full of women making fun of men, so after she claimed that she would, she was kinda obligated to stick it to me (even if it was a sarcastic jab at stereotyping in general).  Maybe my post needed an emoticon.

Real talk: what the hell is up with Asians and motoring? For one reason or the other there is a sizable Korean community here, and you can tell in which part of the neighborhood these families are concentrated just by observing the nearby parking situation. Cars aren't necessarily parked on top of one another, but it's getting there. It's pretty remarkable.
More real talk: What is with black people and backing into parking spaces?

Seriously?

*PS360 fanboy* graphics aren't that important anyway.  i like 30 fps it is more immersive.  could you imagine uncharted 2 at 60 fps?  it would be unplayable

a drop in framerate is interestingly seen by some players as a reward for creating or forcing a complex setup in which a lot of things must happen on the screen at once. As in, “Damn! Did you see that? That was crazy!”

I'm the same.

There is a dude in that thread who keeps insisting that Uncharted 2 would look "weird" and "wrong" at 60. Which makes no sense.

The proper argument to make is that Uncharted 2 wouldn't look as good as it does at 60 on a closed box (console) as it currently does because they would have to tone down the graphics to hit 60. That is a perfectly fine and correct argument and stance to take.

Did I miss the link for the insomniac thread?

I though the NTSC standard is 24FPS? I notice a difference in 60 vs 30 fps on PC games. I do notice some difference with frame rate some on the console, but as long as there isn't tearing I don't care about 30fps.

The thing is, framerate drops do make things feel more chaotic, like you're going into slow-mo explosion mode in action movie.

It still sucks when you're trying to shoot someone during it.

Repost of my post in the Ratchet and Clank thread.

And there is indeed a big difference in 60 versus 30 which is obvious to anyone who plays games. Just got through playing Forza today and the immediate and first thing you notice between it and a game like NFS Shift is the night and day difference in smoothness.

It's their call because lots of games settle for 30 to get other legit graphical benefits and enhancements on consoles or other benefits like in an open world game but that one excuse is utter bs. Nobody sees frame rate drop and goes "Wow Cool!"

They seem to be confusing it with old school top down shoot em up games where slowdown is appreciated as a gameplay benefit to dodge bullets or slow motion which is used to create a cinematic effect. But that is not the same thing as frame rate drop.

This person nails it (for the most part although he over downplays the effect 60 fps can have on a consumer without being able to articulate it) and sort of puts the topic to bed.

Quote
If you read the actual article, this thread kind of reflects it lol. I understand some folks love their 60fps. I wouldn't try to argue down your opinion or your taste. While I notice the difference and appreciate it, I think its pretty obvious that the general public, the mass market doesn't really care or notice. What he's saying about the masses, I feel is absolutely true...I've seen and witnessed it. Now whether you agree with the decision following that conclusion is another story. I don't think 60 fps gets them any tangible help in moving games.

Look at Mass Effect. it was absolutely horrendous as far as framerate was concerned when it launched. Look how well it reviewed despite being one of the WORST offenders. How many people are looking forward to the sequel? Browse through metacritic and look at how many 60fps games are in the 8 to 9+ percentile? Even if CoD4 is 60fps, its alone in a sea of 30fps and below. I think the bottom-line is whether they make a game you find fun or not.

Consoles are not PCs. And yes, while you can scale your game to run on the hardware, Most games aren't going to fire on all cylinders which is what consumers (or rather GAF)want. Folks want HDR, 1080p, 60 fps, occlusion, 4xAA, etc out of hardware that just can't do it. Consoles are mass market machines. As well versed as they are, you'd think they'd have some type of realistic expectation...that maybe they'd respect the fact that development means trade-offs and that some people might not prioritize the same as them...or that maybe they do, but realize that in reality they need to do that which might move more units. As knowledgeable as some of you are...and I've seen your posts, some of you are really sharp, it boggles my mind how you can be so callous at times...knowing the challenges devs face from all angles. From budget, to publishers, to retailers, to deadline scheduling, to hardware constraints, to consumer expectations, to their own talent and the game they want to make (every game is different, even if they look the same). These aren't mutually exclusive; its a juggling act. I'm not saying we hold a pity party, but is it so hard to fathom why they might do this and that they might have a point? Is it so unreasonable that we have to insult them or label them lazy etc?

Instead people will ignore it I'm guessing and still argue the extremes of both sides which is the way of GAF.

I actually prefer 30fps sometimes (really).  It makes it look filmed.  60fps makes it look like a daytime soap or something.  Rape away, fellows.

Agreed. 30fps looks more "realistic" to me because it looks like it was filmed.  I don't mind 60fps, but it does make things look very "videogamey".  30fps is great in games that have less lateral movement like racers, but something with a lot of lateral movement like a FPS is nice with a higher framerate.
