Cool.  I had an issue uploading it, and it crapped out early in the upload, so I thought something was busted.

Yeah, I'm going to try to get one out every Friday night or Saturday.  If there is demand, I can see about doing 2 episodes a week, like maybe Friday and Tuesday nights.  Only 2 seasons are out on DVD so far, so after 46 or so episodes, we might have to switch to say, Melrose Place until season 3 hits.

For the record, I thought the first episode, this one, was the weakest so far.  But I guess that's to be expected when they have a rather large cast to introduce.  Luke Perry shows up in the second episode, fret not.  I also thought it was weird that they did a double episode for the pilot.

Early Melrose is hot.

If I can get my capture card up and running, perhaps I can take over encoding later seasons of 90210.  Like I said, I have some of the middle complete seasons, as many as three prime seasons with full figured Valerie and episodes directed by Jason Priestly.  It's really high quality stuff, as is the Party of Five.  Unfortunately, only the first two seasons of PoF are on DVD as well.  FOX needs to step it up, there is some great drama there, and the unintentional comedy is off the scale.  Watching Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Chabert start to adopt Neve Campbell's breathless hesitation acting as the years go on is not to be missed.  Those poor girls though Neve could act.

Season 1 is so far light on Tori Spelling.  She's in the show frequently, but she's always in like, her friend's posse.  She does get (awful) dialogue sometimes, but I read that we don't get classic Tori until season 2.

I'm guessing these teen soaps are getting released slowly due to them having to either a) license music or b) replace licensed music, which I am sure is a time consuming, very technical task.  The two DVD sets I have proclaim that some of the music has been altered for licensing reasons.  The funny thing is I don't even remember licensed music being prominent in 90210.  I am sure that is more of an issue with like Party of Five, though.

You know, the licensing music is a big deal in both series, I used to know that.  In 90210 the later years, they owned a club beside the Peach Pit, and they had a different real life band in there just about every week.

On top of that, they used a lot of songs that were very popular on the charts, almost like the Real World does.  Unfortunately that causes all sorts of headaches in dvd releases, as we all know from the Wonder Years.  Luckily for our purposes, the music in 90210/PoF/Melrose is not nearly as closely tied to the series as it is in the Wonder Years, which would be ruined without the correct music.

edit:  As far as Tori, she will be the double whammy.  Not only will her acting be deliciously atrocious, her looks will change with every fourth episode, right down to her breast size and cheekbones.  Someone should slap together an animated gif so we can watch her nose dance around on her face throughout this experience.

edit2:  I'm really looking forward to this if you couldn't tell.  I will be watching this episode tonight after I get back from dinner.

Fear not.  It is gone by the second episode.

Luke Perry, though, Jesus, sometimes he does this crinkly thing with his forehead and you can see like, rows upon rows of wrinkles appear.  You could get lost in that forehead.

There's another episode, maybe 2 or 3 down the line, where they are using the bathroom together and there is Creepy Sexual Tension.

How about we establish some rules.  In this thread, people can join the 90210 club.  If they do, they must provide a write up for each episode I provide.  Not just a sentence.  Not just an OMG AWESOME.  I will begin doing this with the sevond episode which I think will be tomorrow's project.

Oh, dude, just wait until Luke Perry shows up.

It's kind of funny, as I watch the show, I keep mentally comparing it to Bret Easton Ellis's utterly brilliant novel Less Than Zero.  I think that whoever came up the show must have read that book and tried to emulate a sanitized version of it, at least in parts.  I'd have to reread the book (and see more of the series) to make a detailed comparison.  I mean, the series, the movie, and the book all premiered roughly within 5 years of each other.  I think the movie adaptation of LTZ was fairly popular too.

Robert Downey Jr. high on drugs in LTZ was so awesome. :rofl

The movie was terrible and I don't think it did that well, though I may be wrong.  I remember interviews with Ellis where he stated that he was quite unhappy with the adaptation.

White Man, what'd you think of Glamorama?  I read it last year.  I can TOTALLY see why he feels Ben Stiller ripped it off for Zoolander.

I've never actually seen either Less Than Zero or Zoolander, heh.  I heard Less Than Zero was drastically changed from the book, and really, I don't see how it could have been accurately adapted at all since so much of the book comes from the style it is written in.  I just avoided it.  Zoolander, well, I generally hate distinguished mentally-challenged comedies.  Glamorama is great though.  I haven't read his most recent book.  I guess I should now.  What a great writer.  One of the best going today.

I didn't think The Rules of Attraction was that bad of an adaptation.

His books are incredibly hard to adapt, but I think Avary did a reasonably decent job with Rules of Attraction - the problem is he should have kept it set in the '80s, since the specific time and place informs a lot of the characters' behavior.

Less Than Zero (the movie) is incredibly sanitized and way more moralistic than the book.  What's his latest novel called?

Um, Lunar Park?  It's like a couple years old now.

According to wiki, his next book is going to be a sequel to Less Than Zero.  That should be interesting.

Man, Less Than Zero is an amazing book.  It's astounding to know that he was just 19 when he wrote that.  It's like, insane that someone so young could make such a powerful and coherent statement.  It so perfectly captures ennui.

The man is a genius.  I've never read the work of a writer who can capture the emptiness in modern America as well as him.

Okay, that was actually really enjoyable, I wasn't expecting it to be. At the first I was a little hesitant, but then I saw that the guy had jury-rigged his alarm clock to a statue of Godzilla's head telling him to wake up and my tension melted away. Then when I saw the airplane flying an advertisement for a party, followed by a second airplane trailing a sign that said "NO FRESHMEN" I knew this show would be awesome.  I'm still having trouble remembering character names. Let me see if I can list some of them, and sort out my opinions about them.

Brandon/Brenda-The two twins who are kind of incestuous. I think the theme of this show is about how these two become corrupted due to the superficiality of Beverly Hills, yet still manage to retain some humanity.

Kelly-Brenda's new friend. I am so glad that fate, in the form of a fat girl, intervened to introduce the two. She wears some really ugly spandex in this episode.

Steve(?)-Kelly's ex-boyfriend. Wow this guy is ugly. How did he even get on this show? He is pretty obnoxious too.

Maryanne- I wish I could meet a hot and super-rich girl who wants to sex me on the first date in a jaccuzzi, only for me to be like, "hey, let's take it slow" and then we form a lasting relationship.

The Two Freshmen-I wonder if these two are actually going to become friends with the main characters or if they will stay relegated to the comic relief. I also wonder if Blonde Freshman is totally gay for Brownhair Freshman.

Newspaper Bitch- LOL she's poor.

Hot Spanish Teacher and Black Principal- Black Principal totally wants to bone Hot Spanish Teacher. So do I.  :-\

Ugly and Weird Chemistry Teacher- This guy is ugly and weird. What the heck kind of chemistry project were they doing? It was just a beaker of liquid on a hot plate that changes colors,  how could he even tell if Brenda and Kelly were messing it up?

I kept hoping that there would be characters that I could relate to, but so far they are all so out there that I can't. Well, maybe Kelly's mom who got pissed off when Brenda called at 6 in the morning. That would piss me off too. Any way, I am excited for the next episode.

Hahaha, wait til you see,  Brandon basically has a new girl interest like every episode.  It's almost like Seinfeld.

I'm going to start uploading episode 2 in a bit.  THE GREEN ROOM, featuring the introduction of LUKE PERRY'S character Dylan!

This show isn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

I love how that distinguished mentally-challenged fellow got drunk and let a freshman drive him home.

Plus, Shannen Doherty is hot.

Well, so much for the lasting relationship bit then.  :-\

I can't believe there is still another character to be introduced. Was he playing hookey the first few weeks of class or something?  :lol
