Splinter Cell 1+3+shitty X360 version of double agent + LE version of Conviction = $46

Kind of tempting since I do want to actually give Conviction a chance at some point.  Especially since the PC version looks so pretty.  Hmmmmmmmmm, wonder if a sale this quick means it'll be down to like $10-20 by black friday sale.  Should probably wait.  Already have 1/3 on PC and who cares about X360 double agent.

You guys are the worst. The correct thing to be excited about is DoW and Chaos Rising for $20. Or just CR for $15. DONE AND DONE. So glad I didn't bite at $30 this week

Is Chaos Rising a substantial single player game?  I finally tried DoWII vanilla tonight and it was pretty cool, thinking I will actually play through the single player.

Also, I never played Relic's previous game Company of Heroes.  Is it similar to DoWII in that it's not about base building and resource management, but about using the units you've got to win the map?  Because I hate base building/resource management, so DoWII is kind of an rts I can be down with!

CoH has some base building, but once you establish a base it's kind of just there to deploy units. I actually maybe like it betterthan DoWII? DoWII is such a directed experience, CoH is a little more free form. Although, Snipers+Mortar Teams pretty much ruin the whole thing.

Ended up getting DoW II gold because I read it's one of the few games where you get to gift your extra copy of DoW II if you already own it.  So I figured $20 for Chaos Rising & an extra gift copy of DoW II is still a good deal.

Now I just need to find a friend whose willing play the coop campaign with me and gift it to them!

US pricing looks best for you anyway, maybe a Bore Bro could gift it to you?

Yeah this is stupid. At least on consoles there is no easy alternative.
On computers how easy is it to just fire up an emulator and grab the ROM?

Harder than firing up Steam and playing?

I mean I *am* an emu guy but most of the gamers are not.

Hey, e-steamed boritos, I recall there is supposed to be a way to register any old Valve game's CD-key in Steam, so the system will allow you to download/install the latest version of that game, play without the CD inserted (which I guess would be pretty cool for netbook play), etc. But I don't see where to do it on Steam.

Does such a feature actually exist? Or is it the product of a caffeine-addled delusion, a memory miswired, or otherwise implanted memory from an alternate reality?

THANKS! Sadly, the HL1 and Opposing Force discs I've saved since the dial-up era appear useless:

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.
I've got the key for OF, but apparently I didn't save the code for HL1, which only has the jewel-case insert, not the case-back insert.  :'(

TF2 is a great game with regards to the fact that a total N00B can have a blast and be helpful, while more advanced players can do their thing all in the same game. It 'scales' beautifully.

$8.50 for Oblivion is tempting. I never got to play Shivering Isles

D'aww.

You know, I kind of wish I had the Primeval Warrior badge for TF2 since I've been playing since the beta, but the account that has that length on it has been VAC banned. I wonder if Valve would toss me the in-game item if I asked them about it. I also wonder if my life is meaningless enough to spend the time to do that.

I've got you beat! I took the time to create a Valve Support account and actually ask them about this problem. I've wasted not only my time, but ideally a few minutes of a valve support person's time AND their manager's time, as they try to figure out the best way to tell me to GET A LIFE.

Though in all honesty, it's not about the money, it's about "free" or "well, I already bought it and still own it so..." -- but I also wondered if there would be some kind of old-skool cred for having an unlocked game from CD-key, the same way that I get amazed by XBL tags that show 5 or 6 year membership.
