Patrick Patterson is going to the Clips as well. Also Bill Simmons had a twitter meltdown over Clips guard Landry Shamet pulling out of the World Cup today.

Schedule is starting to leak.

With free agency looming next summer, three-time NBA champion and All-Star forward Draymond Green has agreed to a four-year, $100 million maximum contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports told ESPN.

The new deal, which starts with the 2020-21 season, brings the total length and value of Green's contract to five years, $118 million. Green's extension pays him $22.2 million, $24 million, $25.8 million and $27.6 million over the course of the deal.

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has always championed his players, and he has gone to a new extreme in praising James Harden.

"It's just factual that James Harden is a better scorer than Michael Jordan," Morey said on the "Selfmade with Nadeshot" podcast.

Morey acknowledged that people "hate" his take but explained how the numbers support his statement.

"Based on literally, like you give James Harden the ball and before you're giving up the ball how many points do you generate? Which is how you should measure offense. James Harden is by far No. 1 in NBA history," Morey said on the podcast that was published Thursday.
Quote
Harden has the statistical edge in advanced metrics. His effective field goal percentage, which accounts for the fact that 3-pointers are worth more than 2-pointers, stands at 52.5% for his career compared to Jordan's 50.9%. Harden's true shooting percentage, which factors in free throws, stands at 60.9%, while Jordan's was 56.9%.

Harden wins out thanks to the sheer volume of 3-pointers he shoots in an era of offense vastly different from Jordan's time. As a result, Morey's point faces obvious criticism that if Jordan played now and shot more than his career average of 1.7 3-point attempts per game, he would have numbers similar to or better than Harden's.

"The counterargument is reasonable," Morey said. "They say if you put Michael Jordan on a team now he would do more than James Harden. That's possible. But if you're just saying: 'NBA history, if you give this guy the ball, how much does his team score after you give him the ball before the other team gets the ball?' It's James Harden. And I know that makes people mad, but it's literally a fact."
http://selfmadewithnadeshot.libsyn.com/6-rockets-gm-daryl-morey-debates-esports-future

I'm not sure about the three pointers thing because Jordan only shot 29% for his entire career, including the Wizards years, from the longer three. He shot 40% and took a huge chunk of his career threes at the shorter line, he doubled his attempts from there.

Who will win the NBA title?
Heading into 2018-19, the Golden State Warriors received every first-place vote in this category. Now there's more competition, with the LA Clippers leading the way as the most likely NBA champion.

1. LA Clippers: 117 points (54.5% first-place votes)

2. Milwaukee Bucks: 85 points (36.4% first-place votes)

3. Philadelphia 76ers: 38 points (6.1% first-place votes)

4. Los Angeles Lakers: 29 points

5. Golden State Warriors: 15 points (3.0% first-place votes)

6. Houston Rockets: 11 points

7. Utah Jazz: 3 points

cool beans: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27576018/the-unusual-path-new-raptors-assistant-coach-brittni-donaldson
Quote
Donaldson graduated in 2015 with a degree in statistics and actuarial sciences, and started a job the next day at CBE Companies, a provider of call center solutions based in Cedar Falls. She analyzed the company's internal data.

"This was not what I saw myself doing at age 22," Donaldson says. In her downtime, she applied the skills she was using at work to tackle questions about what she really loved -- basketball. She didn't publish her findings, or really try to. She was experimenting.

She liked it. Donaldson started applying to every basketball and basketball-adjacent job she could find. She even kept a database tracking what happened to each application -- whether she heard back, the rejections, all of it.

Finally, Chicago-based STATS LLC hired Donaldson to work the graveyard shift monitoring data pouring in from motion-tracking cameras installed at NBA arenas. A supervisor soon pulled Donaldson into a more strategy-focused role. She began analyzing the data and producing specific reports for NBA teams. She made such a good impression on the Raptors that they hired her.
Quote
One highlight: The Raptors were on the road when they acquired Marc Gasol at the trade deadline, but Gasol had to visit Toronto to undergo a physical. He asked whether someone might run him through a workout. The team thought about calling one coach back in. Higher-ups decided Donaldson could handle it herself.

"That was special for me -- to be basically the first person he interacted with on the basketball side," she says.

Ujiri watched from his office and was impressed when Donaldson sat with Gasol after the workout, opened a laptop, and took him through some of Toronto's plays.

I doubt they are shitting themselves as that's a pretty bullshit article, it's just dredging up his rape case. Everyone knows about the rape case already, and the article even notes his apology, which I didn't even remember him giving...I just remember his wife sitting next to him at a presser with a rock. People keep trying to act like social accountability has set rules (that can be applied retroactively), but it's fucking random and case-specific.

I mean charges were withdrawn (however dubiously), his apology I guess is somewhat plausible, he doesn't seem to be a pattern offender. Why would he be a pariah? I am sure lots of women still dislike him, but I remember hearing a lot of the 'if his wife forgives him so do I' line of thinking. It sucks that as usual the accuser/victim was pretty much removed from the final equation, but it's far enough in the past where it's kind of past the statute of limitations.

DONGGUAN, China -- USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said Thursday that when the time comes to start assembling the 2020 Tokyo Olympics roster, he won't forget those who backed out of commitments to play in the World Cup this summer.

"I can only say, you can't help but notice and remember who you thought you were going to war with and who didn't show up," Colangelo said.

I've never quite understood the massive chip on Durant's shoulder. He has been treated more positively than just about any superstar by the media and still he plays the rodney dangerfield card.
