Lakers are also working out Joakim Noah, sounds like that might be a more likely signing.

Who will win the NBA title?
Heading into 2018-19, the Golden State Warriors received every first-place vote in this category. Now there's more competition, with the LA Clippers leading the way as the most likely NBA champion.

1. LA Clippers: 117 points (54.5% first-place votes)

2. Milwaukee Bucks: 85 points (36.4% first-place votes)

3. Philadelphia 76ers: 38 points (6.1% first-place votes)

4. Los Angeles Lakers: 29 points

5. Golden State Warriors: 15 points (3.0% first-place votes)

6. Houston Rockets: 11 points

7. Utah Jazz: 3 points

cool beans: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/27576018/the-unusual-path-new-raptors-assistant-coach-brittni-donaldson
Quote
Donaldson graduated in 2015 with a degree in statistics and actuarial sciences, and started a job the next day at CBE Companies, a provider of call center solutions based in Cedar Falls. She analyzed the company's internal data.

"This was not what I saw myself doing at age 22," Donaldson says. In her downtime, she applied the skills she was using at work to tackle questions about what she really loved -- basketball. She didn't publish her findings, or really try to. She was experimenting.

She liked it. Donaldson started applying to every basketball and basketball-adjacent job she could find. She even kept a database tracking what happened to each application -- whether she heard back, the rejections, all of it.

Finally, Chicago-based STATS LLC hired Donaldson to work the graveyard shift monitoring data pouring in from motion-tracking cameras installed at NBA arenas. A supervisor soon pulled Donaldson into a more strategy-focused role. She began analyzing the data and producing specific reports for NBA teams. She made such a good impression on the Raptors that they hired her.
Quote
One highlight: The Raptors were on the road when they acquired Marc Gasol at the trade deadline, but Gasol had to visit Toronto to undergo a physical. He asked whether someone might run him through a workout. The team thought about calling one coach back in. Higher-ups decided Donaldson could handle it herself.

"That was special for me -- to be basically the first person he interacted with on the basketball side," she says.

Ujiri watched from his office and was impressed when Donaldson sat with Gasol after the workout, opened a laptop, and took him through some of Toronto's plays.

Kobe's PR firm really was doing a good job with the "Kobe is an ally and supporter of women" campaign, so they must be shitting themselves over this.

I doubt they are shitting themselves as that's a pretty bullshit article, it's just dredging up his rape case. Everyone knows about the rape case already, and the article even notes his apology, which I didn't even remember him giving...I just remember his wife sitting next to him at a presser with a rock. People keep trying to act like social accountability has set rules (that can be applied retroactively), but it's fucking random and case-specific.

I mean charges were withdrawn (however dubiously), his apology I guess is somewhat plausible, he doesn't seem to be a pattern offender. Why would he be a pariah? I am sure lots of women still dislike him, but I remember hearing a lot of the 'if his wife forgives him so do I' line of thinking. It sucks that as usual the accuser/victim was pretty much removed from the final equation, but it's far enough in the past where it's kind of past the statute of limitations.

DONGGUAN, China -- USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said Thursday that when the time comes to start assembling the 2020 Tokyo Olympics roster, he won't forget those who backed out of commitments to play in the World Cup this summer.

"I can only say, you can't help but notice and remember who you thought you were going to war with and who didn't show up," Colangelo said.

I've never quite understood the massive chip on Durant's shoulder. He has been treated more positively than just about any superstar by the media and still he plays the rodney dangerfield card.

Durant is just passive aggressive. It’s in his bones. It creates all these weird interactions with teammates and fans.

I don't get this recent round of stories about Durant and the Warriors coming up yet again. Why is anyone still talking about this? It's been known from the start, they never tried to hide it. They'd do entire stints during games where Durant got a bunch of isolations while everybody stood outside the arc as reward for playing the worlds greatest Harrison Barnes replacement in the Warriors passing game.

The real fun starts a year from now when Kyrie and Durant are both on the floor together, two epic passive aggressive players who spent the last three years messing around with two contenders each.

I also figure we're closing in on Durant getting his first tattoo outside of his jersey fit, almost willing to predict it happening before he returns to the court.

had to team up with somebody who could handle Joe Ingles for him

also I know they want Russell slipping to those corners but he'll get camping there and watching if they don't give him the green light to also do things like randomly crash for absurd putback attempts while everyone in the arena shakes their head as Scott Brooks found out

So regarding those actual player heights the league is requiring, 2K uses the official NBA measurements rather than actual heights (for a number of reasons including the licensing requiring it), some people edited Durant to be 7 feet while changing nothing else and he becomes literally impossible to guard and breaks everything about the game. :lol

A few years back they zeroed the strength of "Lew Alcindor" because he was similarly impossible to stop, so only by making other bigs be able to push him out could you get him outside perfect range. But it was only really a problem if you were playing the 1971 or All-Time Bucks. Durant will be used in all kinds of modes and stuff being a current player.

Starters are done. Lakers looked good. Anthony Davis especially. Dwight looked a bit stiff. Rondo still needs to learn to shoot better since he will always be completely wide open as no one guards him.
