But who knows how markets would respond in the long run. They were quite happy with the Trump bull market of low interest rates.
So if Trump replaces powell with a guy less inclined to increase the rates the markets might actually prefer that.

I’m pretty sure that changing rates is actually a vote amongst all the governors (including the fed chair) to decide on the target rate, so it’s not clear that replacing Jerome Powell would even change much.

I think, rather, everyone cares. The people who are uninterested in Das Üall want to fund the things everyone can agree on already, and the people who are deeply invested in it (either because they are the president or because they were narrowly reelected in deep red districts to make good on their promises) know that once everything uncontroversial has been funded already, there will be no more leverage.

Seen various reporters point out that this shutdown feels nothing like the Obama era ones, where there were protests and battles going on. This feels like a game, like something you do to prove to someone that you're trying really hard to do xyz.

I agree with forum poster/historian Benji that Trump is a terrible manager, and it costs him points that could have won/earned otherwise. Right now he's juggling the Mathis resignation and Fed chair threats (which WILL result in an ugly Monday market). Two things republicans care about. All while demanding republicans go down with the ship on a shutdown fight he not only instigated, he took credit for before it even happened. Remember the senate passed the clean CR 100-0. Ryan could have passed it in the House with a veto proof majority, but instead decided one last act of cowardice was too enticing to pass up. That all changes on January 3rd though. Pelosi will pass a clean CR, and she might even get enough republican votes to override a veto. Then it goes back to the senate...is McConnell going to refuse to pass it? I doubt it.

Sanders allies don't understand that this isn't going to be 2016, and he won't be running against one (uninspiring and controversial) person. He benefited from being the only anti-Hillary candidate in what was basically a two person race.
