$250M and 10,000+ border agents and it still isn't enough? Where is all that money going beside private contractors holding migrants in cages?

Is the 5 billions dollars to make a wall out of $1 bills?

Quote
Erdogan, though, quickly put Trump on the defensive, reminding him that he had repeatedly said the only reason for U.S. troops to be in Syria was to defeat the Islamic State and that the group had been 99 percent defeated. “Why are you still there?” the second official said Erdogan asked Trump, telling him that the Turks could deal with the remaining IS militants.

With Erdogan on the line, Trump asked national security adviser John Bolton, who was listening in, why American troops remained in Syria if what the Turkish president was saying was true, according to the officials. Erdogan’s point, Bolton was forced to admit, had been backed up by Mattis, Pompeo, U.S. special envoy for Syria Jim Jeffrey andspecial envoy for the anti-ISIS coalition Brett McGurk, who have said that IS retains only 1 percent of its territory, the officials said.

Bolton stressed, however, that the entire national security team agreed that victory over IS had to be enduring, which means more than taking away its territory.

Trump was not dissuaded, according to the officials, who said the president quickly capitulated by pledging to withdraw, shocking both Bolton and Erdogan.

Caught off guard, Erdogan cautioned Trump against a hasty withdrawal, according to one official. While Turkey has made incursions into Syria in the past, it does not have the necessary forces mobilized on the border to move in and hold the large swaths of northeastern Syria where U.S. troops are positioned, the official said.

The call ended with Trump repeating to Erdogan that the U.S. would pull out, but offering no specifics on how it would be done, the officials said.
:lol

When even the guy who says to pull out quickly tries to back peddle and convince you wait, I was only joking. Oh man.

Haha. It’s always even worse than you thought.

His going nuclear is also incredibly stupid, especially from his own perspective.

If Senate moves to a 50 vote threshold, the House will send over tons of democratic priorities that they feel like they can peel away 5 vulnerable republicans on and the Senate Democrats will spend all their time figuring out how to force those votes.

DACA Fix, net neutrality, protecting Mueller, banning family separation and probably half a dozen other things trump has done suddenly become politically possible.

Woah, he actually got the house votes.
Now the senate needs to act. The GOP probably figured $5.7 billion for a wall was a cheap way to 'pay off' Trump.  :lol

"Thank god he'll be busy with the wall and not withdraw from any more wars" they whispered.

The US building the wall because Trump holds the government hostage is just  :delicious

Nope. McConnell is holding the vote so that he won't be blamed personally by Trump. Trump could have bullshitted about "winning" and signed a continuing resolution but Fox News, Limbaugh, Coulter called him out. So he felt like he had to stick to his guns at a time when he has less leverage than ever.

So either a clean CR gets passed over his veto after the new Congress is sworn in, Trump signs something but tweets about how he hates it, or they find something symbolic he can claim as a victory (and hope Fox & Friends don't blow up his spot).

Dow dives 400 points, heads for worst week in 10 years

Stocks plunged again on Friday, bringing the Dow Jones Industrial Average's losses for the week to 6.7 percent, putting it on track for its worst week since the financial crisis in 2008. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell into a bear market. The Federal Reserve's rate hike on Wednesday drove the losses this week and fears of an extended government shutdown only added to the pain on Friday.

Kasich vetoed the stupid Heartbeat Bill again. Gets a nice little jab in at the end.

>As governor I have worked hard to strengthen Ohio’s protections for the sanctity of human life, and I have a deep respect for my fellow members of the pro-life community and their ongoing efforts in defense of unborn life. However, the central provision of Sub. H.B. 258, that an abortion cannot be performed if a heartbeat has been detected in the unborn child, is contrary to the Supreme Court of the United States’ current rulings on abortion. Because the lower federal courts are bound to follow the U.S. Supreme Court’s precedents on abortion, Sub. H.B. 258 will likely be struck down as unconstitutional. The State of Ohio will be the losing party in that lawsuit and, as the losing party, the State of Ohio will be forced to pay hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to cover the legal fees for the pro-choice activists’ lawyers. Therefore, this veto is in the public interest.

Meanwhile:

* Trump signs a compromise criminal justice reform.
* Trump admin bans bump stocks. People generally expect this to be overruled in court (for same reasons Obama admin decided they couldn't do it).
* Supreme Court doesn't give the administration a stay in a case where a lower court had ruled against them on asylum policy. Everyone I'm reading says it's pretty cut-and-dry that it was an illegal move, but it was a 5-4 decision with Roberts as a good guy.
* They will be rolling out a different barrier to asylum, requiring asylum seekers who come through Mexico to stay in Mexico during the process.
* Also a new rule slashing eligibility for food stamps.
