I've been talking to some girl from Brooklyn on OKC lately, asked her if she wanted to meet up in the city sometime... no response yet though

Not really a big fan of traveling out to the city, but at this point I will do it if a woman is involved.

My big hope right now is that the girl who I went out with on Sat was interested enough to want to date me, and I can go out with her and totally move on from the other girl I liked.

I've also took some steps into actually going up to women in person... haven't gotten to the point where I get a # yet, but for someone who's relied on the crutch of meeting people online since about 2003 (when he graduated college), it's a fairly large step. And what do you know, I actually have been noticing some girls smiling at me and checking me out, even though I think I'm not really that attractive. $:-\$

OK, I definitely have a thriving virtual love life now, getting more than enough messages and IM requests. Time to disengage for a while to put my real life in order.

I gave very left-leaning answers to all political questions and have plenty of attractive matches. Granted I make a point of having low standards (highly recommended, guaranteed to make you much happier) but some of them have pictures even you'd probably approve of.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with you guys... I wouldn't give up gaming for a girl, because the kinds of girls I would want to be dating/marrying/fucking/etc would accept my interests. Besides, the one girl I went out recently that I actually really liked, plays video games herself (Mario games, Wii, DS, RPGs... basically the shit I like!)

Writing skills are a big deal to me too. I've been interested in guys and as soon as I spoke to them online I found them to be so boring and dim and instantly lost interest, "hi hows u, kl, wot u up 2?" and that'll be it :/ I don't get how some people can be talkative and appear intelligent in person but as soon as you talk to them online, theyre a whole different person with nothing to say and the most terrible writing skills.

Is it safe to assume that anyone w/o a profile pic is a monstrous abomination? Or are some people just trying to be 'off the radar' for other reasons?

The only reason I joined OKC originally, by the way, is that a profile happened to show up in Google search results for the phrase "generalized abstract nonsense". I would never have considered joining a dating site before, but figured any site with a (female) user into algebraic topology and category theory had to be different and less tacky than others

I'd like the potential for new friends and new forum drama, not just dating by itself. I think the OKC forums are shaping up pretty well, considering how much worse they could've been. Sadly, there are still a lot of really tacky aspects of OKC, like the IM client, the color scheme, and the fact that the page title for when you view a message is "An intimate message". WTF, I just want to ask her a question about programming language semantics.
