I'd like consistent challenge like the first NG game.

The beginning of chapter 9 is atrocious too.

edit: and I said that before I got to the TUBE OF BUGGSSS

What they need to do is make Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1.5  - Take everything that was in Black/Sigma but throw in the insane combat of NG2. Perfect game right there.

If he hits you once you lose 3/4ths of your health as he drags you through the tunnel. I accidentally used up my Talisman so I let him kill me so I could do it over.

Then you use the Phoenix magic and he dies in 2 seconds, like several of the unbalanced bosses of this game.

It's a good thing I kept the Talisman because instead of getting a replacement at the next Trial of Valor, I got over $25,000.

Wait until you see the last few levels. There's some twistedly epic looking art direction there.

raining blood ftw.

glad you can break the 99,999 essence barrier.  finally got every weapon upgraded (except level 4...not sure when that'll be unlocked but I just started 10.) so now I can keep maxing every item.  yay!   didn't expect to do that on my first play through.  took forever to get to that point in 1.

What I mean is people will start seeing its flaws.

please show me the threads not overrun by whiners.  I hope its more like the first NG-- people bitched like hell at first, then played the game more, got good at it, and stopped caring about the flaws and "cheapness"

AdmiralViscern-- the other option on the mech dudes is ninpo.  A Piercing Void is guaranteed to take off a limb (then go in for the OT.)  But I think Inferno at Level 2 or 3 can take off limbs/kill a few of them at once.
I think that strategy is what they intended, especially for the part with the bazooka guys on either side of the arena. Immediately after that fight, there's a ninpo essence chest.

I just rounded the corner instead so the rocket losers couldn't get me, and like I said I had to settle for using Life of a Thousand Gods.

I haven't used any healing items more potent than the regular herbs, and only in boss fights, so I think I'm just going to play loose with the healing from now on to get myself through the game with less frustration. I have all the weapons maxed that I want so I can afford to replace them if necessary. I have 4 weapons fully upgraded and the rest all lvl2 and I still have $60k.

Fortunately the rest of the level was a joke compared to that one 5 minute portion. Unbalanced game.

But Life of a Thousand Gods permanently increases your HP...why wouldn't you use it asap? Are you chasing some Achievement or something? genuinely :??? on this

It's not like you only get one. I've used 5 or 6 already.

In any case I forgot they could be used to heal so the first 3 or 4 I used right away, then I got smart about it.

With the regenerating health and the easy regular enemies it's not like you really need that extra inch of health anyway. But you do need that quick fix for the annoying/hard parts.

I'm on the castle now, nice setting.

The water dragon was by far the hardest boss I've faced so far, so many retries

I don't know what the general consensus is here, but to me NG1 >>2, at least of the chapters I've played. The encounters are less fun and rewarding than the first one. In the first one it was possible to go 50/50 on defense/offense, making for some strategic and intense battles. Here you need to be overly offensive to survive because there are more enemies per fight.

Finished the game yesterday. The last few levels of this game has some of the best build up to a finale that I've seen in a while.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The descent in hell, fighing TWO atomic armadillos at once (and surprisingly beating them both without using a healing item), the stairs, the hall of blood and dead trees, the lake of blood filled with about 50 big fish monsters, the big fucking door thing, the battle of the final boss, and the amazing music that accompanied all of this.
[close]

Overall I think this game is about equal to the first. The entertaining level design (sans first four stages) and upgraded combat system makes up for the lack of polish the first game had. I hope that even though Itagaki is leaving Team Ninja soon they would patch up some of the games flaws like the low camera and some of the unavoidable boss attacks (and add a mission mode). I doubt that this will happen though.

It's good to see that they changed the enemies again for Mentor mode. Lots of rockets and machine guns involved. That should make the first four stages more entertaining to play through until I get into the real meat of the game. It's too bad the costumes I unlocked are a joke compared to what we got in the first one.

Final karma score: 18,814,063 Warrior mode

I think it may have had something to do with fighting 1000 ninjas at once.  and it was an awesome showcase...for the animation.  pretty sure that whole part was intentional--notice how they barely attack?   But jeez, you give 360 kids one game that runs at 60fps and suddenly they think they aren't running 3 year old hardware.

Ayane looks fucking awesome in this game. They got her character model perfect.  Hayashi or Alive 5 should be interesting.

and bloody tits ftw.

Elizabet tried to fly into me, I dodged, she flew through the door I entered from and she's stuck in there. It sounds like a lawn mower and blood splashes through the door but she can't move, or hurt me, and I can't hurt her.

It pains me to agree, and I don't to the same degree, but what's true is true.

NG2 needed 3 more months in the oven.

It's got framerate issues out the wazoo (NG had none), in battle loading (infrequent, but even once is too much, and NG had none) and is not terribly buggy, but buggy enough (NG was bug free.)

Every other aspect of the game is improved. Every one.

Level design is tighter.

The weapons just shit on NG1 weapons.

Enemies are tougher. More enemies make the fights much tougher and exciting. Obliteration Techniques are an incredibly satisfying addition to the combat system. Heal system + less healing items + regular ninpo use are all great changes.

If NG2 ran at a rock solid 60fps with no in level loading an no bugs, it would be so far beyond action game of forever. It would be perfect. The essence of action pressed into DVD9.

As it stands, it's a flawed masterpiece. And those flaws are too big and too frequent to ignore.

Fix the problems in NG2 Sigma, and you've got my $60 all over again. Guaranteed.

I love 90% of the game, so I'm probably not as far off from you as you might think.

I'm up to chapter 13 now, and boy does it fucking suck. A bunch of straight line hallways, the biggest enemy of this game's camera, crammed with giant flying enemies that make me even blinder. I had to put it down, it's just too stupid. Then I get to continue refighting bosses ::)

I'll beat it tomorrow though.

3 months in the oven would fix it for sure. that laggy staircase was a total fucking embarrassment, but it really wasn't a surprise. I don't know how they went from having one of the best looking, cleanest, smooth running, perfectly balanced games of last gen and turned it into a rough package like this. I guess that's what happens when the lead designer decides he's quitting halfway through the process.

It's a shame that 10% is so strikingly awful because the 90% is fluid, perfect, everything I wanted, and maybe just enough to keep me from ever touching NG1 again. I already want to replay the game but I doubt I'll do it anytime soon (or on higher difficulty) because those little 10 minute spots of annoyance really throw a monkey wrench in the 12 hour experience.

DLC level select please, Team Ninja, if you even give a shit anymore.

edit: Oh, but I think I'd have to say that "more enemies" is more a con than a pro, especially with the camera.

I realise I'm terribly behind, but I finally got around to playing the demo and I feel like having a quick gush.   NG was one of my favourite games last gen, and I've just been reminded why it's so unbelievably awesome.

I forgot, but fighting enemies that aren't on screen is a staple of NG, and people complaining about the camera need to grow some balls.

In summary,  :bow Itagaki :bow2, and I really need to get through my backlog so I can buy this.

I think he may be referring to the camera angles, as opposed to the camera itself. I've found my view partially or completely blocked by foreground stuff more than a few times during NG2, which I don't really remember happening during combat in part 1.
