edit: OK, downloading the SSHD patch makes the game appear in the Trophies menu. Game image, text title, and then a bar with a percentage above it. If you select the game you can see each achievement name, and you can see what you have to do without clicking further. There's also an image to tell you what kind of achievement it is (bronze etc)

Wow this is so much deeper than Achievements:

Bronze - Collect 10 bombs
Silver - Collect 20 bombs

Much more care put into leveling up!

Pretty much. This update really seems like a beta test. A beta test for a firmware...wow. I understand now why they didn't put out Home early.

I only tried Resistance, but the two problems are that it seems to chug (almost like the blade does with the 360, except not that bad) when just moving around it. Other problem is that the actual icons take a while to load. You see the name and all that, but the icon doesn't load yet. Add in that half these icons serve no purpose and it is just a waste.

2.5 or whatever the next update is should go ignore letting you quick swap from the game you are playing to another one and create a new XMB for playing in game. Remove the video and picture menus entirely. Less options, less icons, less loading and clunkyness to it. The sad thing is that they probably won't do this, because people will start saying how great it is to jump from one game to another and how it saves them 2 seconds. Fuck that shit. It is clutter and wasted space.

Honestly I prefer seeing an actual gamerscore next to each action, this seems sort of esoteric.

If you want to view picture, view a video, use the internet or things like that while in a game, you have to quit out of that game. Things like getting and sending messages, checking trophies/friend list, ...eventually music, and all that stuff can be done in-game through the XMB. Same with some settings. It is worth updating. It only took like 5 minutes.

As for it slowing down that much, it isn't bad, but I didn't try uncharted. It takes about a second (instead of instant) for icons to load. The actual movement of it all seems almost like 2/3rds the speed of the regular XMB. Jumping from game to in-game XMB is instant, but exiting takes about a second.

10 trophies are based on existing stuff you did, the rest are brand new things you can do. I think there are like 56 of them.

I booted Warhawk and got no update, and it's not in my trophies

Also XMB runs noticeably slower during Warhawk than SSHD. Jittery motion to everything, nothing killer.

There's also a load if you want to check against another person's trophies, it's 'synchronizing.' I imagine that gets longer the more trophies you have.

OK, I got a trophy

It makes a little tink sound and shows it in the corner, with type and name. 3% for SSHD. The trophy unlocked rises tot he top of the list and a big picture appears, along with a date and time under the unlock criteria.

MGS4 already has semi-custom sound tracks. Plus, some people might want to listen to the MGS theme while playing.

It is a really fast update, so yeah.

Still, this stuff has to be fixed soon. Custom soundtracks in all games that can be played through a usb flash drive. I'm not putting my music on my PS3 itself, that space needs to go to the massive SC4 install.
