HOWEVER I will agree that Sony have some sort of magical brand loyalty in Europe/Australia. People would buy pieces of shit with a Sony badge if they could.

Microsoft and other USA brands are really unpopular here in EU. I understand the MS hate but not the US.
The only US product that sold well (at least here in Italy) was the iPhone and the hype is already almost dead. Also the 360 is not marketed particularly well here.

#1 Its made by MS
#2 Its an American product (not much love in EU for the made in USA products )

#3 EU loves Sony

I really dont understand all the hate for Sony in the US but the truth is they make excellent electronics (awsome features, quality made, good costumer support........) if not the best ones (right up there with samsung). Sure the prices of their products are distinguished mentally-challenged and sure they are arrogant turds and most of their execs have a god complex, but the truth is if you buy a sony product, you will be satisfied (well, the ps3 is an exception).

#4 Playstation is an official partner of the Champions League (soccer) = HUGE MARKETING

Anyways hello to everyone 

Since i am also from europe (germany), i support this post, (i just don't think people in germany hate american products, everybody here's into lots of ami stuff, and it's cool to have them). It's really like that, people are scared of microsoft, and microsoft and its products (especially windows) is generally viewed upon as low quality, or as some kind of evil that you have to accept, because you have no real alternative thing to use instead (linux and mac is too niche, no games etc).

One small anecdote: I rode in a bus a few weeks ago, and at one station it stopped, and the display thats usually showing at which station you are at went blank. The bus driver said "Sorry, we have to take a short break now, the operating system just crashed down. You can probably imagine which one we are using.". Almost everybody in the bus laughed....


So, if you decide to play games on consoles instead of a pc, which is a rare thing here in germany, a small to medium reason for most adult gamers (like me) is getting away from windows madness, and enjoy the simplicity of a console. and then you usually decide against microsoft, because Microsoft = Windows. Well thats how i feel a lot of people think here.

I see the superior game library of the XBox, but somehow even i tend towards buying a PS3 at the moment, even if it's more expensive. And since i am hanging around in places like this, i know that RROD is a thing of the past, and the XBox is safe. Weird...

I haven't turned on my Wii since Boom Blox came out. Everytime i look at the Wii shelves in a store, i ask myself why did i waste 250e on that shit.

Sure it's a good system in that sense that a karaoke machine is a good thing, but for a gamer it's a piece of shit. And when i look at the NPDs and stuff and i see soo many shitty ass distinguished mentally-challenged games from the Wii filling up the charts, it's like...what a shitty gen.

DS is like my favorite system since the PS1, I think... so many awesome games released this year: Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates, Etrian Odyssey 2, FF4 DS, The World Ends With You, Bangai-O Spirits, and soon Dragon Quest 4-6 and DQ9.

Drohne also forgot to mention the pure seething vitriol in most Sfags. I remember when the PSP vs DS "fight" started, and being amazed by the Sfag legions on IGN. I am kinda ashamed that I own a Wii even though it's only turned on for friends or family.  This dude who already had a PS3 told me he wanted a Wii after he tried it at my place.  
He said he's never played anything so fun.  Despite my anti-Sfag sentiments,  I wanted to kick his butt for such stupidity.

i don't object to wii as a social phenomenon -- some of my friends are still really into wii tennis, and they don't have the slightest interest in videogames generally. good for them. i object to game enthusiasts who feign or force wii fandom out of pure sentimental attachment to nintendo

HS would have been a much better game with a less complicated defensive system and a more stable framerate+less tearing.  The last QTE sequences were gorgeous but completely ruined by the amount of tearing.  Also, I hated the designs of the boss characters.  They were a bunch of unintentionally hilarious tards.  I never felt threatened by them.

It's good, but ugly.  Bad points are the story, no replay value, that is a glorified flash game, and the fandom surrounding the game is a bit nauseating (although that doesn't affect the game itself).

I can agree with this.  It looked great in stills, but even in the cut scenes it ran poorly.  I actually liked some of the bosses, but I do think the dialog with them was bad at times (one that comes to mind is Nariko talking with the water bitch).  In general I think that game had great cut scenes; I actually laughed during a few of them, especially those involving Kai.  And while on the topic of Kai, her stages were awful.  I actually enjoyed the game quite a bit, it was just a technical mess for the most part.

This is actually the opposite for my friends.  They chose the Wii this gen after being PS2/Xbox gamers before, but they ended up buying like 3 games for it (outside of Wii Sports that was included) and they almost never play it.  The rare times I talk to my friends about video games, they always ask about some game on the 360 or PS3 and want to actually play it, but they can't since they chose the Wii.  These people were the old kind of casual; you know, the kind that was into Halo, Madden, GTA, and other big name stuff.

It was just too confusing to switch between stances in a heated battle.   Sometimes, you're cornered by enemies that require different stances to counter which makes the system feel really clumsy.  

Also, the timing for the counters could have been a little more consistent.
