For people that are so afraid of business monopolies, liberals sure have their panties on fire to give the government monopolies.

Yeah, because the govt. is culpable to the voters.  Corporations are culpable to NO ONE and when they fail there are no fucking consequences for the people that caused the failure, as evidenced by our financial meltdown this week.

Corporations are culpable to the law and their customers. The only reason there are no consequences this week is because our great leaders in washington want to bail them out.

That sounds good until you realize that when these idiots are failing, the CEOs are getting golden parachutes as a reward and get off with no consequences, tens of millions of dollars for running their companies into the ground, and if they're lucky become advisers to Republican presidential candidates!

If the board wants to give crappy CEOs a bucket of money then fine. Let them reward incompetence, it only hurts their business.

That's the point- it doesn't!  Because the gubmint comes in and bails their asses out.

Seeing McCain rant about greed on Wall St. and cry out for regulation is like Capt. Renault say that he is shocked, SHOCKED to discover there is gambling going on at Rick's.

It sounds like you have a problem with government bailouts not CEOs business practices. If there was no way in hell a business would get bailed out by the government then the CEOs and their business would either fail miserable or run their companies better.

I agree with you that the fed needs to stop stepping in at the drop of a hat.

This is true. I don't think the government should step in and do this for companies where the CEO runs it into the ground, know he got his money and that the government will step in and stop the business from failing completely.

But then again, whats another 600 Billion (number approximated for current and some future bailouts) added to our deficit?  ::)

On a related note, what do you think is going to happen when a terrible hospital manager runs a hospital to the ground under socialized medicine. Do you think the fed will step in?

Oh thats right liberals think that government employees do no wrong.

That, or CEOs could just get it right the first time.  Its kind of why they are getting paid the amount they do.

Most of these guys know what they are doing.  They whine and bitch about government regulations (which are pretty much a breeze to get around in the first place) and as soon as they get their hands on something unregulated, they plunge their companies into chaos.  5 years of prosperity with 2 years of utter disaster that ruin a 100+ year business because they thought they were smarter than they really were.  More importantly, there are executives that full well knew the financial health of the business and just hoped to leave on a golden parachute before anyone realizes it was them who fucked it up.

McCain's solution of passing the buck is pretty dangerous because you know he is going to hire a radical pro-business czar who believes the answer is government subsidies and soft on white collar crime.  Since we're not even at the end of all this shit, that bailout number may be far higher than $600 billion if this "policy czar" were hired.

On a more serious note, Chuck Hagel doubts Palin is ready.

Quote
"She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials," Hagel said in an interview. "You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything."

Oh that's good.  That's what we call a "money quote".  But wait!  There's more!

Quote
Palin has cited the proximity of Alaska to Russia as evidence of her international experience.

Hagel scoffed at that notion.

"I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,'" he said. "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."

BAM.  But who gives a shit?  Siamesedreamer is in LOVE!

edit:  Oh shit.  Extra special bonus section.

Quote
"I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Hagel said.

Since we are discussing Government bailouts and such in here as well. This kinda fits political and that. Maybe if Fannie and Freddie were more concerned for themselves this wouldn't have had to happen?

Don't try and take the focus of that, because whether or not YOU believe it's an issue, it IS.  The vice president only has one true Constitutional power, but his/her real purpose we've found out through the years to to serve as President during times of duress, illness, stress, or fucking death.  That IS a high probability here in this case.  McCain's going to die soon, and we don't know if it could happen in these next few years or not, but it probably will.

She would be our President.  What the fuck.

LOL, so Democrats are magic psychics that know McCain will die in his presidency if he wins? SMH.

All I'm saying is, that if Democrats want to win the election, they need to focus on McCain, not Palin as they have been doing. focusing on Palin is a mistake.

Palin's favorability ratings have taken a dive off of a cliff over the past week.  So yeah, seems like the right idea in retrospect to me.  I expect those number to keep dropping, too.  Apparently, to know Sarah Barracuda is not to love her, unless you're part of the base.  Which, I don't know if you've noticed, has SHRUNK DRAMATICALLY on your side this year.

But keep on living in your alternate universe where the Republican party isn't the biggest fucking failure since the Whigs.

Actually, since McCain is fucking old, I'm definitely concerned about Palin.

Especially since Palin for some ungodly reason (librarian hotness lol) has attracted and united Republican voters similar to the hype behind Obama.

If Obama is the "celebrity" of the Democratic Party, Palin just skyrocketed there, even though, as I've mentioned before, she's the worst nominated candidate of any kind ever. The nation needs to know that if anything happens to the president, there is a competent VP to take over. Palin is the furthest thing away from being competent.

Seriously, if McCain and Palin win, you might as well write off the United States. We are fucked.

Republicans want Democrats to be dumb, but sadly for them we've caught on to their tricks and are able to employ them pretty well when we want to.

What did the implosion of John Kerry in 2004 teach us?  That if you REALLY want to hurt your enemy, you don't attack him on areas that he's already weak on.  Everybody knows that shit already.  You take what his biggest perceived STRENGTH is, and attack that.  Well, the McCain ticket's biggest strength post convention was the suddenly bright star of Sarah Palin.  But instead of allowing them to build the narrative of the All American Hockey Mom that kills her own dinner while simultaneously "reforming" a corrupt state government, and who just happens to know all about foreign affairs because she can totally see Russia from her back porch, we dragged her through the mud by, you know, TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT HER.  Shocking, I know.

Now, she's still riling up the base.  Let her.  She's not bringing in independents and moderates so much anymore, and as time goes on she WILL be more of a liability.

But keep on living in your alternate universe where the Republican party isn't the biggest fucking failure since the Whigs.

and who is to say that those polls wont reverse again before the election? You? Me? The Giant Universe Gerbil who fucks us all?  Assuming the numbers will keep dropping isn't a wise choice, but its your choice, so you'll have to live with it if the polls do reverse. If they don't reverse then ok too. I take no stock in polls because they change from day to day, week to week, all the way up to election day.

But if my opinion that attacking/focusing on Palin doesn't fit with yours, I must live in a fantasy world? Wow man, wow. Why is it that anyone who doesnt share your exact opinion is either a fucking retward or lives in some fantasy world where Republicans made no mistakes?

I have never said Republicans have made no mistakes. Every President/Congress makes some mistake, or multiple mistakes in their term/terms.

To imply that I believe so just shows me that your opinion cannot be taken seriously, your so far up the Liberal agenda's ass that its funny. I bet you sit in little coffee shops every day, thinking up ways to burn those who have a conservative view in something, just so you can feel smug that you "owned" someone.

But keep on thinking that I'm a Republican. As I've stated many times before, I am not a Republican. I'm not registered as one. I am an independent. Registered as well. But since my opinion doesnt match yours i must be a Republican. LOL.

Edit: Why is it that whenever I read your posts they read is if you could have a heart attack any minute?

Biden: Paying higher taxes patriotic for wealthy

WASHINGTON - Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said Thursday that paying more in taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans. In a new TV ad that repeats widely debunked claims about the Democratic tax plan, the Republican campaign calls Obama's tax increases "painful."

Under the economic plan proposed by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, people earning more than $250,000 a year would pay more in taxes while those earning less — the vast majority of American taxpayers — would receive a tax cut.

Although Republican John McCain claims that Obama would raise taxes, the independent Tax Policy Center and other groups conclude that four out of five U.S. households would receive tax cuts under Obama's proposals.

"We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people," Biden said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Noting that wealthier Americans would indeed pay more, Biden said: "It's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut."

McCain released a television ad Thursday charging that Obama would increase the size of the federal government amid an economic crisis. Contending that "a big government casts a big shadow on us all," the ad features the image of a shadow slowly covering a sleeping baby as a narrator misstates the reach of the Obama tax proposal.

"Obama and his liberal congressional allies want a massive government, billions in spending increases, wasteful pork," the ad says. "And we would pay — painful income taxes, skyrocketing taxes on life savings, electricity and home heating oil. Can your family afford that?"

The McCain campaign said the ad is set to run nationally.

So patriotism is now defined by giving more money to the government?  It will take a lot more than that to get us out of this rut.  We have a lot of "I owe you's" handed out as is.

Does no one in washington know what true patriotism is?

The right thinks patriotism is supporting the war, the left thinks its paying taxes. I weep for this country.

as a narrator misstates the reach of the Obama tax proposal.

I mean, it's true, they are lying. But usually the media doesn't flatly point it out like that.

Since Ganhyun likes to take every opportunity to emphasize that he TOTALLY isn't a Republican but in fact an independent, I would now like to take this opportunity to allow him to tell us who the last Democratic candidate that he voted for was.  Or a single substantive issue where he differs from the Republican party that he TOTALLY isn't a member of, despite the fact that he likes to joke about beating up people who voted for Kerry while he was in boot camp.  Which would definitely, TOTALLY be the act of a freethinking Independent, and not the act of a goose stepping, non-thinking Republican shitheel.

hmm... the last Democrat I voted for?

Zell Miller, former GA governor. I didnt vote for Perdue.
President wise? I voted for Clinton the first time around.  No one the second Clinton term, didnt vote.

But here we go again, you get pissy and want to name call.  As I have told you before, calm down, don't have a heart attack/stroke. I will not be held responsible for your medical bills because you can't take it that someone else has a different opinion than you.  :lol  :lol

I have a huge book of WWI and WWII war bonds posters that would seem to show that lots of people think that paying taxes for a war effort is indeed patriotic.

I guess we wouldn't have to pay them back once we go to war with China later in the century though.  You have to think long term if you are in government.

BREAKING: Ultra-rich businessman supports tax cuts for ultra-rich businessmen.

And I'm not even sure when you look really at his tax, I think everybody's going to be taxed a lot more.

You know, a lot of people are talking about how a McCain victory would mean disaster for the Supreme Court with Stevens likely retiring soon. But I just realized that Stevens wrote the majority opinion on Gonzales v. Raich, possibly the worst Supreme Court decision of the past 25 years. Can someone more knowledgeable than I about the Supreme Court inform me as to some good decisions Stevens has made that lead to him being so beloved by Democrats?

John Paul Stevens' voting record has been the most consistently "liberal" (and I use that term loosely, because in considering the full political spectrum no Supreme Court justice is particularly leftist) of all current Supreme Court justices.

Well if McCain's mother is anything to go by he might live through two terms and after, but this discussion is entirely hypothetical anyway.

Women generally live longer than men. Some people say women having much less stress on average is one of the reasons that they do. And I can't think of very many jobs more stressful than being the President of the USA.

I could see McCain dying in office.  To be honest, I'm surprised he is still alive now.

He's had a very stressful life.  When he was a POW, it wasn't exactly summer camp (his hair changed from black to gray in just a few years, which easily shaved a lot of years off of his life) and politics is still stressful, even if you are a dumbass at it.  He might make it in the first term but probably not the second.

Why do Democrats still attack her as if she is running for President? She's not. She is the VP pick. And unless something bad happens to McCain if he wins the election (notice I said if there), she won't be President.

Because taking over as president in an emergency is practically the VP's ONLY job.  What, she was picked for her outstanding ability to make tiebreaking votes in the Senate?  The odds of McCain being incapacitated early in his term might be low, but the VP exists almost solely as a backstop for that event.

It would be like if we appointed a completely unqualified hack to run FEMA, because what are the odds that some giant storm will wipe out a major American city?  Oh wait.

My only thing with that is I feel that by focusing on her, Democrats are making a mistake. As I said before, I feel that focusing on her is a mistake for Democrats. Just my feelings on the matter.

As far as Katrina went, I don't think there is anyone who can say that wasn't a screwup.
