Were there any democrats talking about the current financial crisis a few years ago, or even 6 months ago? I'm not talking about the typical Bill Maher verbal diarrhea of  "War costs money we need to raise taxes hur hur hur" Im talking about someone with an economics background.

With how much its rumored she gets around/parties is it possible that both her anus and vagina are considered  ham n' cheese pita sandwiches?

Obviously you missed Obama's legislation seeking to curb shitty mortgages 2 years ago, or the letter he wrote urging Paulson and Bernanke to do something last year that they ignored.  You were probably too busy jerking off to the idea of less regulations, so it's understandable I guess.

Curbing shitty mortgages isnt the root of the problem. Im talking real economic fundamentals like monetary policy. Democrats cant talk about it because they dont understand it.

If we have an economy that can crumble because a small minority of people are able to take out loans they cannot afford then their are bigger problems with the system. It would be like my starting a restaurant and then when it fails because I blame it on the lack of napkins.

Jesus Christ. Every discussion board I visit, I see people debating the merits of nationalized health care vs. a free market system. As always, the price argument comes up. And yet no one ever brings up the fact that the care itself is priced at least 200-300% above the level it should be at.

(directed at no one on this particular forum) IF HOSPITALS COULDN'T CHARGE $50 FOR AN ASPIRIN AND DOCTORS COULDN'T BILL THEIR TIME AT $500/HR, AND AN X-RAY WHICH IS BASICALLY TURNING ON A MACHINE FOR A FEW SECONDS AND HAVING A SPECIALIST EXAMINE A CHART FOR FIVE MINUTES COULDN'T BE BILLED AT $1000+, IT WOULDN'T COST $20,000 A YEAR TO PRIVATELY INSURE A FAMILY OF THREE, YOU IDIOT FUCKS!

Forcibly driving down costs needs to be the FIRST thing that happens.
med school bills are also part of the reason doctors need such high salaries.  medical school is a lot cheaper in europe so if you want to get it to a socialized system like there, you really have to overhaul the whole field of medicine.

NO MAN will support women like women will!!

WAKE UP SISTERS there is only 1 ticket that actually had the guts to put a women on the ticket and that is the one we MUST support.

McCain will hand over to A WOMAN! Do you really think a MAN from Chicago really cares about equal pay and power for women? What does he pay his male staffers compared to the females (about $10,000 more a year, but McCain pays females on his staff MORE than the men!). Obama had the chance to put a woman on the ticket and did not.

The Dems PASSED OVER a more qualified women for a MAN! What does that tell you? So the dems throw us a bone by supporting abortion right. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH! WE NEED REAL POWER!

What people tend not to get when looking at average debt after 4 years of med school (which averages about $140,000 for the 2007 class, for the 2012 class it will be significantly higher), is that during residency you get paid jack-shit.  But remember, that interest is accruing all the time.  Try owing $140,000 + collateralized interest over the terms of residency, plus any residual debt from your undergrad education.  Average residency of an anaesthetist is 3 years; for a general surgeon it's 8 years.  You want to further specialize, you're looking at another 2 - 3 years on average.  All the while, that debt is increasing 'cause realistically it's difficult to pay anything meaningful towards it.

But then those greedy doctors get paid sooooo much.  At any rate, most American doctors (something like 70% when polled; I think it was Pew) believe a single-payer system is the way to go even though it would definitely decrease salary over time.  Dealing with the medical insurance bureaucracy is enough to drive most doctors to insanity with the back-and-forth arguing over payment, level of care authorized, etc.  What Shinobi wants could most effectively be dealt with by moving to a system similar to the VA (hurrr).  The VA is one of the most cost-effective and efficient health systems in the US, notwithstanding some of the bullshit at Walter Reed and problems of rural care for mentally-ill veterans.  Kaiser Permanente is another good example.  Neither is perfect, but a massive leap better than the patchwork we have now.  Or the movement towards fee-for-service, which for example has over time led to a brain-drain in the plastics.

But Americans hear single-payer, and are told it means "socialist" health care, long lines and waiting lists.   ::)

Total bullshit that this country wouldn't at least provide free health care to all children, regardless of economic circumstance.  Fuck adults, I guess, but at least get to 'em before the ingrained habits and poor health choices begin (or diseases that drain the coffers and stability from families of affected youngsters).  And I don't at all shirk from the fact that that is an argument that opens a can of worms concerning childhood nutrition, environmental factors, parental ability, education, etc.

For the kids mofos  :american

Or we can continue down the savage path of libertarians and dunderhead repubs who would disallow single-payer and a government ability to negotiate lower medical supply and prescription fees.  Thanks AARP!  Ya old fucks.

Chris Bowers makes an interesting point about the police state style security lockdown at the RNC this year:

http://www.openleft.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=8350

I mean, let's look at the facts:

What do Republicans hate more than anything else? Dirty hippies, whiny serfs, and ethnic/religious minorities.
What do Republicans like more than anything else? Watching the people they hate anguish in defeat. The entire RNC was a great monument to their raging lust for schadenfreude.

So what better way to celebrate this than the get the people you hate protesting your convention by holding it in one of the most reliably liberal areas of the Midwest, watching them come out and march, and then tear gassing/violently subdueing/arresting them in large numbers.

The fascist RNC protest response was sort of a Republican side attraction-the Epcot Center to the Magic Kingdom of the main RNC venue, if you will.

Most blacks are "intelligent at school"? To answer yes would require an extraordinary amount of cognitive dissonance.

to be fair, I would describe a lot of white people as not being intelligent at school or smart at everyday things.  That's why I wish there was comparisons to people in general, rather than just focusing on one color with nothing to compare it to.

Comparison? Are we suggesting that, for instance, on average blacks perform as well in school as East Asians? Looking at grades, test scores, and graduation rates, there's just no way an honest person could claim such a thing. That doesn't make one a racist, just a realist.

Its more culture than race.  Generally though, most white people apparently don't see black people as lazy and irresponsible if those statistics mean anything.  Whitey is twice is more likely to think black people are friendly than they are lazy.  It all depends on how you see the statistics, which 9 times out of 10, is with varying degrees of bias.

McCain campaign fights for, wins changes to format of the VP debate.

Quote
At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

I think that most people would at least privately admit that she's completely unqualified and probably just a succubus whore waiting to flash McCain to achieve world domination so she'll still look bad in this debate if she doesn't totally win it (which she won't against somebody like biden).  I think that basically all cable news channels pundit asses will finally admit after the debate that she has a vagina (literally) and that's it.

Why are democrats so racist.

Poll: Racial views steer some away from Obama

Quote
WASHINGTON - Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks — many calling them "lazy," "violent" or responsible for their own troubles.

The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 — about two and one-half percentage points.

Certainly, Republican John McCain has his own obstacles: He's an ally of an unpopular president and would be the nation's oldest first-term president. But Obama faces this: 40 percent of all white Americans hold at least a partly negative view toward blacks, and that includes many Democrats and independents.

Issue among Democrats
The findings suggest that Obama's problem is close to home — among his fellow Democrats, particularly non-Hispanic white voters. Just seven in 10 people who call themselves Democrats support Obama, compared to the 85 percent of self-identified Republicans who back McCain.

The survey also focused on the racial attitudes of independent voters because they are likely to decide the election.

Lots of Republicans harbor prejudices, too, but the survey found they weren't voting against Obama because of his race. Most Republicans wouldn't vote for any Democrat for president — white, black or brown.

Not all whites are prejudiced. Indeed, more whites say good things about blacks than say bad things, the poll shows. And many whites who see blacks in a negative light are still willing or even eager to vote for Obama.

On the other side of the racial question, the Illinois Democrat is drawing almost unanimous support from blacks, the poll shows, though that probably wouldn't be enough to counter the negative effect of some whites' views.

Race is not the biggest factor driving Democrats and independents away from Obama. Doubts about his competency loom even larger, the poll indicates. More than a quarter of all Democrats expressed doubt that Obama can bring about the change they want, and they are likely to vote against him because of that.

Three in 10 of those Democrats who don't trust Obama's change-making credentials say they plan to vote for McCain.

Still, the effects of whites' racial views are apparent in the polling.

Statistical models derived from the poll suggest that Obama's support would be as much as 6 percentage points higher if there were no white racial prejudice.

But in an election without precedent, it's hard to know if such models take into account all the possible factors at play.

The AP-Yahoo poll used the unique methodology of Knowledge Networks, a Menlo Park, Calif., firm that interviews people online after randomly selecting and screening them over telephone. Numerous studies have shown that people are more likely to report embarrassing behavior and unpopular opinions when answering questions on a computer rather than talking to a stranger.

Other techniques used in the poll included recording people's responses to black or white faces flashed on a computer screen, asking participants to rate how well certain adjectives apply to blacks, measuring whether people believe blacks' troubles are their own fault, and simply asking people how much they like or dislike blacks.

"We still don't like black people," said John Clouse, 57, reflecting the sentiments of his pals gathered at a coffee shop in Somerset, Ohio.

Word association
Given a choice of several positive and negative adjectives that might describe blacks, 20 percent of all whites said the word "violent" strongly applied. Among other words, 22 percent agreed with "boastful," 29 percent "complaining," 13 percent "lazy" and 11 percent "irresponsible." When asked about positive adjectives, whites were more likely to stay on the fence than give a strongly positive assessment.

Among white Democrats, one-third cited a negative adjective and, of those, 58 percent said they planned to back Obama.

The poll sought to measure latent prejudices among whites by asking about factors contributing to the state of black America. One finding: More than a quarter of white Democrats agree that "if blacks would only try harder, they could be just as well off as whites."

Those who agreed with that statement were much less likely to back Obama than those who didn't.

Among white independents, racial stereotyping is not uncommon. For example, while about 20 percent of independent voters called blacks "intelligent" or "smart," more than one third latched on the adjective "complaining" and 24 percent said blacks were "violent."

Nearly four in 10 white independents agreed that blacks would be better off if they "try harder."

The survey broke ground by incorporating images of black and white faces to measure implicit racial attitudes, or prejudices that are so deeply rooted that people may not realize they have them. That test suggested the incidence of racial prejudice is even higher, with more than half of whites revealing more negative feelings toward blacks than whites.

The Clinton factor
Researchers used mathematical modeling to sort out the relative impact of a huge swath of variables that might have an impact on people's votes — including race, ideology, party identification, the hunger for change and the sentiments of Sen. Hillary Clinton's backers.

Just 59 percent of her white Democratic supporters said they wanted Obama to be president. Nearly 17 percent of Clinton's white backers plan to vote for McCain.

Among white Democrats, Clinton supporters were nearly twice as likely as Obama backers to say at least one negative adjective described blacks well, a finding that suggests many of her supporters in the primaries — particularly whites with high school education or less — were motivated in part by racial attitudes.

The survey of 2,227 adults was conducted Aug. 27 to Sept. 5. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.

u mad?

No, I just assumed the average age of posters here at the bore was over 12 years old. I guess I was mistaken.

Damage control?  :lol :lol

So when the poll that shows that republicans are racist comes out. You guys say stuff like, "man, republican racism confirmed and sealed." But when there is evidence that the democrats are racist your excuse is "Oh everyone is racist it's ok"

Beardo could make the next McCain commercial:

"Democrats racist? Obama is a Democrat. Obama hates black people. That's change we don't need.

I'm John McCain and I approve this message."

Actually the 'Obama hates black people' would be served as a question, to remove the chance of getting in trouble for it.

Why are democrats so racist??

I dont understand why democrats hate black people. Maybe if they stopped driving their hybrids and living in their New England mansions making out with their San Fransisco boyfriends we could finally move on.  :maf

You guys are gonna have to go easy on Beardo, he's grappling with the fact that it's the Republican party that has gifted America with socialism.  Of course, just like everything else the Republicans touches it's shitty, ineffectual socialism that benefits maybe only 1% of the country but hey!  Gotta start somewhere.
