They're only "disappointing" because Obama had a staggering run of good numbers for about a week.  Presidential races tend to tighten at the end and Obama was hitting the ceiling of a plausible margin of victory.

Powell, like Rice, is a republican but is rather liberal on social views; that makes Rush's SC comments quite puzzling. I'm not surprised that he's dismissing this as Powell "voting for the black guy." Drudge is insinuating it on his front page.

Can't wait to hear McCain surrogates attack Powell's judgment and (possibly?) character next week. Or will they simply roll out a list of REAL generals who support McCain

McCain himself has already done this :lol

It seems that right-wing boards have reached a consensus that Powell only supports Obama because of race.

It's like they didn't listen to the 5+ minutes of Powell delineating his reasons for supporting Obama. It's completely ridiculous. Why can't these fucktards just get raptured away already?

It's important to note that Powell took a huge dump on McCain's entire campaign platform and the Republican party as it currently exists today in between the Meet the Press and the mini-presser afterwards. A simple bullet-by-bullet repudiation of Powell is not sufficient, as his attacks were too broad and too precise. Only a complete smearfest to discredit the messenger would be effective, and that's what wingers like to do anyway.

I love the 'Wildcard, bitches!' aspect of this move but I must ask the more knowledgeable: Why on earth did Powell wait so long? Is this bandwagon-jumping or did it really take him so long to compile his list of grievances with the Bush administration? Come on now, he must have been working on them for years.

Still, regardless of his motivations, this seems like a killer blow to McCain's hopes.

I don't doubt that he didn't time it for maximum political effect, but I'd like to point out that his appearance is as much in praise of Barack Obama as it is a broadside against what the Republican Party-which he is still a proud member of, as he reaffirmed today-has become in this election cycle. I think in the short term he wanted to give cover to other Republican moderates by letting them know "this Obama guy, he's OK" while in the long term telling the crazy nutters and Rove-trained smearmongers that their way leads to ruin and it's time for the party to change direction.

Presumably he also likes the idea of Obama setting a precedent for him to follow, assuming (again) that he has presidential ambitions?

Typical idiot Republicans.  They should have followed them and then slashed their tires on election day.  That might have actually prevented them from voting.

Even though that is so sad, it really is funny to me that people would resort to these scumbag acts. The scumbags of America are literally raising there hands and exclaiming," It's me, I'm racist!".
It's even more funny that shit likes this just makes people all the more empowered to move towards ending this when the intent is to do the opposite.

I was raised by my grandmother and am from a military family. Everyone is a Republican. I was the first to go to college and am finishing up my graduate degree. ...

I am currently in a relationship with a black man in what John McCain would describe as the "real Virginia." My family, after three years, are just now becoming comfortable, if you want to call it that, with my boyfriend. They claim that he isn't like all of the other *****.

Before my grandmother died, she left me with a note that she didn't want me to open until she died. I opened that letter. My grandmother — who has never referred to blacks appropriately — had [early] voted for Obama. She called him a "socialist" in her letter but she voted for him because she said that maybe the values that her parents instilled in her, which was to hate anyone that didn't look like her, would not be passed on if people saw Obama in office.

It was especially touching given my current relationship, and I honestly believe that there are many others out there just like my grandmother. Take it for what it's worth but I believe that Obama will not only win my home state of Virginia, and that includes doing well in the "real Virginia" as well as win this election.

My very liberal friend just sent out this email in response to our conservative buddy trying to cause trouble via email, thought you might get a kick out of it.

Quote from: Taylor Daynes
Within the first 6 months of being sworn in, Obama will make the case that Iran is planning an attack on Israel as a way of testing to see how tough Obama is on foreign policy. He will say that he has plenty of evidence, supplied by the (thanks to the Bush administration) fully-funded intelligence agencies. Using Iraq War II as precedent, he will launch a pre-emptive war against Iran. This new war won't be popular with most of America, but thanks to his incredible speechmaking, and his brilliant diplomacy, the Obama administration will not call this a "war" (which would need Congress), or even a "police action", which implies some ethical responsibility - instead he will label it a "holy crusade" against the towel-heads. This will make him instantly popular among the "war party" (the solid core that remained after the crumbling of the Republican party after McCain's defeat), who will totally turn around on Obama and back him to the hilt. The peaceniks and other liberals will object, and in response, their patriotism will be questioned by the new "war party". The war party will call anyone who opposes the war un-american, will question their citizenship, will sick INS on them, and will tell them to go back to France. When faced with criticism about a pre-emptive war, Obama will respond that not attacking would be surrendering to Iran, and that he owes it to the American people to never surrender.

Faced with too few troops to effectively open up a third front, Obama will combine his two middle-east foreign policy plans, turning the withdrawal from Iraq into a surge into Iran, by telling everyone in Iraq to "just run in the direction they all pray, and shoot anything you see." Although this rapid troop withdrawal from Iraq will leave a dangerous power vacuum, it should turn out ok because many people have been saying that Iran was the one inciting all the problems in Iraq anyway.

That still won't be enough troops though. Fortunatly, Obama has a plan:

He'll encourage all illegal aliens to join the Army with the promise that they'll be granted citizenship at the end of their tour - and those that don't come on their own, he'll collect via INS. Then they will be thrown with minimal training and armament into the most dangerous, and most suicidal missions. Those that survive will have their tours lengthened indefinitely. And since they aren't citizens, they have no recourse to complain. Also, they don't speak English. This plan will be popular with both conservatives that hate illegal immigration, and liberals who thought they were going to get drafted. In a bi-partisan show of support, the vigilante border patrols will be augmented by conservatives and liberals alike, trying to lure Mexicans across the border with the promise of candy.

In the second (and longer term) part of his plan, Obama will personally overturn Roe vs. Wade, and will take all the unwanted infants and give them to the military, where they will be raised as Perfect Killing Machines in DARPA programs. Those that criticize the program and say that we won't see any results for, like, 18 years will be reminded how they didn't seem to care when offshore drilling wouldn't actually do anything for 10 years.

Holy crusades are expensive though, even if you aren't arming your troops, and the economy will still be in the crapper, so Obama - seeing where the money is - will nationalize the banks and all the oil companies. With the oil industry finally in government hands, he will use his monopoly to raise the price of gas. This will have several great benefits: the government will be swimming in cash, people will be encouraged to consume less oil, and it will jump-start the alternative fuel industry.

In another stunning move to augment government revenue, Obama will also decriminalize most drugs, and will task the DEA with selling drugs to the American peolpe. In a crossover program, the DEA will team up with the USPS to lace the lickable backs of stamps with LSD in an attempt to get more people hooked.

Even with these direct-sales programs by the government, taxes will still the primary source of revenue for the government. And the best way to increase tax revenue is to make sure that the lower and middle-classes have more money in their bank accounts. To help facilitate this, Obama will impose trade sanctions on the United States, preventing the import of all cars, clothes, and consumer electronics. After one supertanker full of pokemon toys crashes into Harbor Island in an attempt to land their illicit goods, the administration will enforce the sanctions with a naval blockade.

With nothing else to spend their money on, Americans will be able to to pay much higher taxes. These tax increases will be sold to citizens under the guise of a "tax cut for the middle class". When asked who the middle-class is that will be receiving an actual tax "cut" instead of a tax "increase", Obama will reply "STFU" and will ask them if they want some candy.

Finally, Obama will reveal his true character - the Obama he hid so well during the campaigns. With a holy crusade raging in the east, the government cashing in on an economic disaster at home with huge taxes, and by selling drugs to the American people, Obama will reveal himself as That Wealth-Spreading One. He will seize the accounts and assets of all citizens making over $250,000 a year (singly, or $450,000 a year if filing jointly), and will hand these greedy greed-mongers over to the newly formed National Inquisition Agency, where they will be tortured until they reveal all their money-making secrets, and until they reveal where they are hiding their Jew Gold.

Obama will then redistribute this collected wealth to the American people. One week later, he will raise taxes sufficiently to recollect all that money. If anyone complains, he will say that paying taxes is patriotic. If anyone keeps complaining, he will hold a match under their birth certificate, and ask them if they really want to go to Iran.

And that's why I'm voting for Obama.

Just got a follow up:

Quote
King 5 News - September 14th, 2009

As we enter the 9th week of the Holy Crusade against the evil, villainous dictatorship of Iran, Supreme Commander In Chief, President of the LSAaM (Liberated States of America (and Mexico) Obama has issued a disparaging statement regarding the United Nations lack of support to the crusade effort:

"The UN is vistigial entity.  It used to be a place to bring the plights of the world into the conscienceness of the global leaders and mandate that change be made.  Sadly, in recent years the mandates have not aligned with our priorities.  Therefore - whether or not the UN approves - we've just been doing what we want.  What, are they going to send the French Army to stop us?  I salute you!  [President Obama raises both arms similar to an NFL official signaling a touchdown ... or like someone surrendering]

The Newsweek article is nicely written, and explains that the Obama campaign returned the money.

The McCain campaign is really grasping at straws with this idea of a "mysterious sugar daddy funding the Obama campaign."

Trust me, I've nothing against what you posted. McCain's records are fully open. Obama's aren't and its been found that he has recieved funds from foreign entitites, which is illegal and some accounts say those funds haven't been returned.

But if you go by The Card Cheat's way of thinking, me posting that makes me some sort of nasty name because I'm not 100% pro Obama so he must throw mud and names at me.

It's something that needs to be said. He wasn't "pandering" to whites there. Notice: if he puts equal blame on the government he's called a black nationalist, but if he puts most of the blame on black fathers he's accused of pandering to white voters.

They try to paint Obama as some black extremist but all you have to do is listen to him speak on black issues. It's not surprising why real black supremacists/militants/etc hate him
