Event Horizon.

Weird.

I've been trying to rent this forever. I should give up and torrent it, but I keep hoping for a high quality version of the film. The look is dead sexy, which is probably why Dead Space seemed to lift it wholesale, five-finger discount styley...

Look and atmosphere was great. The engine in that ship doesn't look aged but the concept was just lacking imo.

I wasn't that big on Event Horizon, it did some thing well [like the atmosphere] but other things were just dumb. Other people really seem to like it, though...

I saw The Descendants on Friday night. Good movie that starts out pretty standard during the first hour but ends up going in a different direction.

Jesus fucking christ, this is why we can't have nice things. Would Justin Bieber audition to play Elvis? Would Keanu Reeves audition to play Bruce Lee? No. Because those people respect their legends. They realize as a race, it's in their best interest to protect the their monuments.

Where's Al Sharpton? This news is worse than anything white people have done to black people recently, so where's Sharpton? Jesse Jackson. FML

I liked Drive, but it truly has become the overrated movie of 2011 that internet movie geeks and closet homosexuals champion. The GAF thread was downright embarassing.

I also loved it but man, some people actually love the ending theme. Fuck.

The Muppets was fucking awesome. I used to love those guys as a kid and still can't get enough now. I would have liked some more screentime for some of the lesser Muppets but I still enjoyed the hell out of the movie (and out of 80s Robot)

i didn't realize how obsessive gaf was over Drive, almost to the same levels of fandom Equilibrium received when that film was initially released. as different as they are, they share the same qualities of being slow and carelessly drawn out films with absolutely no merit when it comes to character development and plot. atleast drive was entertaining enough.

Equilibrium is a terrible movie though.  I heard Drive is at least a fun watch.  What the fuck is the name they give to the fighting style in Equilibrium? Something Gunkata or something.  So bad.

I find it terribly paced and extremely dated. I loved it when it came out but time has not been kind to it. Even more offensive than its cliches and terrible writing is that it is now boring.  So now the only redeeming factor is its cheese.

also the matrix > the matrix reloaded >>>>> equilibrium = matrix revolutions

awesome-o nailed what I hate about equilibrium's writing.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

The past few years have been really good for the horror-comedy genre: Tucker & Dale, Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead, Fright Night, and Piranha 3D. Tucker & Dale is just a fun movie to pop in late at night and watch. It's funny, it's weird, it's gory, just great stuff all around. Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine are great as the two hillbillies. It's too bad this never got the attention it deserved.

sometimes a bad movie will still have enough good elements to make it worth seeing, but they still don't redeem the film as a whole.  The Wolfman is just like that.  As its a gorgeously filmed piece of crap with inconsistently amazing effects and some very fun setpieces, some good/bad performances, and a lousy script with no surprises.

Its frustrating to watch as you can see the squandered potential in front of you.  A lot of money went into making this well polished turd, that does indeed jolt to life during some very enjoyable wolfman-on-man sequences where things, at least temporaily, spring to life and the film is a lot of fun to watch.  Its also fun to watch Anthony Hopkins very clearly enjoying his part as the avencular/sinister patriarch of the lupine-cursed family that a sleepy Benicio Del Toro returns home to.

The creature effects are marvelous, that is, when they're not shitty CGI, which they sometimes are.  The extra features actually show more impressive practical effects that were never used then actually show up in the finished film.  Part of my dissapproval might be from watching the extended "unrated" cut of the film, a shorter, less tedious, more wolf filled version would be great fun to watch, and would only last about a half hour.  Win win baby.

That's pretty much how I feel about it as well. Some parts of it work really well, but others part just don't work well at all. And there's far too many of the latter than the former. So disappointing.

The ending was amazing. Every time you saw Gonzo in the big finale number his arm was still spinning and to have the final scene be  Gonzo accidently hitting the bad guy in the head with the ball and giving him brain damage so he gives back the theater? Out of nowhere and perfect.

Okay, the movie looks like a rip-off of every shitty heavy cgi sci-fi film this last decade. Basically the movie looks awful. Which is too bad, it's a good (though very dated) book series.

I thought it was alright; not nearly as bad as many said. I just like classic monsters, and modern takes on them. Plus I'm an absolute sucker for films that feature ominous scenes of an old man in a tavern telling some haunting story about an experience with the monster, while scary music plays.

watched Somebody's Hero last night.

It was a very clean, family feel good movie, and quite a good one at that. It was very idealistic, and had some good messages for kids and adults alike. Surprisingly well acted for a straight to DVD flick, and was quite sad in parts too.

If you feel like watching this kind of film, I recommend it!

I'm sick, so it's motherfucking movie day

Shaolin - 2011.  Enjoyable romp.  Surprisingly funny at parts.  I didn't actually realize that Jackie Chan was in this until he showed up.  It suffers a bit from Western Color Correction Madness but it's a fun little blockbuster in the standard Benny Chan mode.

Cul-De-Sac - Excellent early period Polanski film.  Worth your time, but be expecting more Knife in the Water and less Chinatown.

Cronos - Hadn't seen this in forever.  Really liked this all over again and it's easy to see now that Del Toro has been making fairy tales for his whole career.

Horror Express - Thawed out hyper-intelligent ape creature vs a train full of people (and Lee and Cushing) on the Transsiberian Express.
