I liked The Hangover the first two times I saw it.  Once because I enjoyed watching the mystery unfold and the repeat time to to focus more on the performances instead of the jokes.  It's pretty good.  Zero desire to see the second one though.

I've never seen the 2nd.

The first was hilarious and intriguing the first time. Eh the second time and boring the third time on. The Asian guy is so horrible that it's cringe worthy. I have no desire to ever see it again.

Second was the same as the first one, exactly. Not as good.

Third one is set in Dublin I heard.

Don't think I will go see it in cinemas unless they change the formula, otherwise I might fall asleep.

I guess I've been to 2 out of the 3 Hungover cities  :whip

English, IMAX, 3D.

I thought from the trailer it would be another exhausting and charmless action-fest a la PotC but couldn't have been more wrong. It WAS an action-fest but it was also filled with character and charm. Visually stunning too (and not just in the wow, look at all that rendered hair way either - there was a lot of fantastic camera work that would have been impossible with traditional methods)

Midnight In Paris

Woody Allen still has it. Incredibly charming and whimsical, it does for Paris and literature what Hugo did for classic films and preservation. Ultimately Midnight is the better film though and has shot up to the top of my 'favorites of 2011' list.

I liked that one a lot. It was like highbrow junkfood. And I support the trend of Marion Cotillard being in every movie.

He gets taken for granted, I think. When he eventually dies you will see the outpouring of love and praise he deserves. Anyways, between Match Point, Vicky Christina Barcelona and now Midnight In Paris, I really love how modern Allen isn't just a mere shadow of golden era Allen.

Match Point (one of my favorite films of 00s) and Vicky Christina Barcelona were fantastic, but I felt that Midnight in Paris was very much a shadow of golden era Allen. Not a bad film, but it was a big step down from previous output.

He voiced a character, but had nothing to do with writing, directing, or producing it.

Annie Hall's the quintessential Woody Allen movie.  My personal favorite is Bananas.  Take the Money and Run is good.  Sleeper, but only if you're in the mood for a lot of slapstick.

edit: And I know this is the movie thread, but his early standup and humor essays for the New Yorker are worth checking out.

Cars 2

It was enjoyable popcorn fun, don't get the hate.  Then again didn't get the hate for the original either which I thought was great (original was better, but this was still better than a lot of films I've seen this year).  Really nice visuals, good action, some funny bits.  The couple of death scenes felt really out of place and stupid, but otherwise was a fun Pixar film.

He's not the main production designer this time round, but his working on a couple of big 'things' for the movie. Perhaps a new creature?

Inferior to the book, but better than the original mini-series.

Finding that hard to believe. Although by the looks of things, I won't get a chance to agree/disagree for a while. Must be a shitty limited release, since my local theatre isn't getting it Friday  :'(

they cut away the slowness.  things which took an half hour in the mini-series would take three precisely edited shots.  Fuck the editing was so good.  It was the closest thing I think I've seen to comic book style sequential art.  Here are three images in order, your brain fits what they mean together and how it advances the plot.

you can't top alec guiness, but it got damn close.

less bitter, more reserved performance from Oldman.

Trying to imagine these superlatives flowing from Oldman's usually stony and stern demeanour is kinda hard.

I hope so. If they're showing the Space Jockey in the movie than I guess that could be at least one thing he's working on.

Started watching Tangled again, I picked up the BD to watch in 3d since I saw it in 2d in the theaters and liked it and had been meaning to grab it.  Watching the first 20 mins again reminds me how this is probably the closest a CG film has gotten to having that 90s 2d Disney feel.  It's not quite as good as the classics, but I think it turned out better than Princess and the Frog at hit that style.  The songs have that awesome, throw in a dozen jokes along the way, good stuff.  Also from what I checked out the 3d is pretty impressive, a lot more than any other movie I've checked out in 3d.  Seems showcase material.
