Got tickets for the wife and I. Can't wait.

"Join us as SIFF hosts Gary Oldman in person on Sunday, December 11 at SIFF Cinema at the Uptown, with an intimate screening of the acclaimed feature film version of John le Carré’s classic bestselling novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy at 5:30pm followed by an onstage interview and Q&A session.

A limited number of tickets are available for an exclusive dinner reception with Mr. Oldman. The dinner will take place at the Volterra Drawing Room immediately following the screening event at 8:30pm and will be prepared by award-winning chef, Don Curtiss of Volterra Restaurant in Ballard. Tickets for the dinner are $200, which includes reserved seating to the film screening, conversation and Q&A."

We're not doing the $200 dinner. Tickets were still $40 for the two us, though.

Well, somebody died on set of the Dark Knight Rises, so now ManaByte will have a convenient excuse for when TDKR makes over a billion dollars:

the dark knight rises viral stuff was for tickets to see the ~6 minute prologue at a select imax theater on the 13th (instead of the 16th, when you had to pay and got an extra mission impossible movie).

wow, why

why would they even

as a stooges fan i like the general idea, in that it's three separate storylines, each of them as long as the old 3 stooges shorts and only tangentially connected

and the actors seem to have a lock on their imitations

and i like the (older) farrelly brothers movies (kingpin, there's something about mary, and me, myself and irene)

but yeah, the only reason this even got made was that the farrelly bros. are huge fans and kept pushing, this is what happens when fanboyism has a whole lot of money

if you go back and watch the earliest (the first couple of years) 3 stooges shorts they're very cleverly written in addition to all the slapstick, and have good production values - this looks like it's just a bunch of nostalgic schtick shoved into the modern era

plus, the story of how shitty columbia treated moe howard after they cancelled the stooges series makes this kind of...well, icky

if they were gonna resurrect something that doesn't really need resurrecting and call it the 3 stooges they should have just developed a story with three entirely new personalities

i'll probably still watch it, there's enough talent involved that i'll likely get a couple of genuine laughs out of it, but there is the sweaty smell of desperation all over it

Just watched North by Northwest and feel bad saying I hated it. The pacing was miserably slow, the scenarios were distinguished mentally-challenged, and the characters were dumb as bricks. Overrated trash.

Some chick is counting numbers.

Numbers stations have always freaked me out. They're supposedly just a publicly transmitted means of relaying crytological information, but... I dunno, what if they're not? They freak me out about as much as stories about phone calls from dead people.

they're coordinates to IMAX theaters.  people typed in those numbers, points showed up on a map, and then those points became available for everyone else to claim a ticket.

You realize this is going to make way way way way way more than The Avengers right? More than anything next year outside of the The Hobbit.

Started watching Tangled again, I picked up the BD to watch in 3d since I saw it in 2d in the theaters and liked it and had been meaning to grab it.  Watching the first 20 mins again reminds me how this is probably the closest a CG film has gotten to having that 90s 2d Disney feel.  It's not quite as good as the classics, but I think it turned out better than Princess and the Frog at hit that style.  The songs have that awesome, throw in a dozen jokes along the way, good stuff.  Also from what I checked out the 3d is pretty impressive, a lot more than any other movie I've checked out in 3d.  Seems showcase material.

Very amiable, well executed Disney formula movie.

But Mandy Moore's character is emotionally and socially a 13 year old and the hero's in his late 20's.  There was a certain amount of skeeviness.

Tangled is amazing. Really surprised me when I saw it earlier this year; the advertisement made it seem like a Shrek-type affair, but it's classic Disney from beginning to end

hah i bet sceneman hasn't even seen Tangled.

i watched Snowtown last night. so incredibly creepy. really did an astounding job of immersing you in the world of these people and then gradually drawing you deeper into John Bunting's bad craziness. when the first murder (historically the second) goes down the audience still shares its understanding with Jaymie so without knowing what the film is about you might not even realise that it's happened. even the way they introduced the primary characters was relaxed to the extent that i couldn't be sure who was going to be of consequence.
music, cinematography and acting all worked beautifully together to build atmosphere and tension to the point where it couldn't realistically be diffused at the end.
so many small moments to love in this film too. i really liked when john is watching the middle son standing on a chair wearing a dress and makes him hold on to the bricks. also writing cigarillo on geoff's windows with soft serve.
i would've liked to've seen more of the welfare fraud and i think there was room for it.

i ended up reading about serial killers for a couple of hours after watching and had to watch Our Idiot Brother before sleep. film is so tepid it quickly got my mind off murder and murderers. i cannot imagine anyone having a strong opinion of that film at all.
thx

i bet tangled is terrible.

:rofl

yeah I make no bones about the fact that the majority of stuff I watch/enjoy is kitsch garbage.

Thing is I do enjoy classic Disney joints like Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland and shit. I watched Tangled with my mum and my sister and we all hated it, we all said it was "trying too hard" or something. I think we ended up just watching Con Air as a family for the 10th time, as Con Air never gets old.

I finally saw Almost Famous; I'm not a huge Cameron Crowe fan, but I thought this movie was pretty charming. I laughed a lot. The kid's home life was well-portrayed; Frances McDormand was phenomenally believable, as always. Zooey Deschanel cannot act. Kate Hudson can act, but looks like a sexy alien. Phillip-Seymour-Hoffman (I don't know what he hyphenates, so I just did them all) also had a great bit, as a very, very jaded rock critic who takes a liking to the kid. All in all, a solid B+

If you have the DVD (or maybe Blu-Ray), I strongly recommend checking out the commentary track where he BRINGS ON HIS FUCKING MOM WHO PROCEEDS TO DISCUSS EVERY DETAIL OF CROWE'S LIFE AS ITS PLAYING OUT ON SCREEN. It is simultaneously the awkwardest, most charming thing ever.  Only equaled by the GoodFellas commentary track where Henry Hill and the cop who chased him are stuck in a room to comment :lol

Yeah, Stillwater, and it turns out there was a band from that era with that name. Crowe rounded up the band, showed them a print of it, and then got their permission to use the name. Probably could have turned out to be far worse.

Speaking of future projects of our favorite dialoge heavy directors, Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" is insanely ambitious. I've been waiting for that since 2004.

I can't wait to see it, but I'm more excited about the third film in the "Before Sunrise/Before Sunset" series.

I haven't watched those yet, but I have them so I might watch them tomorrow. There's a rumor going around that Boyhood IS the third move in the series.

Yeah, I thought that was the case as well, but then Hawke came out the other week saying that they're planning on making the new one next year.

Before Sunrise is good, but Before Sunset is brlliant.
