I'll just say that you have no fucking clue about the origin of this Bane
Thrown in jail from childhood, fearing for his life daily until he finally stabs some fucker with his teddy knife.  From there decides to train his body and mind to never be as weak as he was again. Forced into an experiment because everyone hated him and when they thought he died from venom they threw his carcass out. Stop me where I'm wrong?

Also yes the Euro accent is a part of why I dislike him.

Quote
and comic book bane sucks.
In his latter years when he helps Batman and that shit storyline where he looks for his dad, sure. The Bane that broke the bat, nope.

Secret Six Bane was the best Bane.

Knightfall is worth reading hell yes. I won't spoil too much but Knightfall is probably the best use of Bane and shows off the traits I speak of. Power, strategy and a need to validate himself.

Cool. IGN or someone did a top 10 of Batman stuff, I grabbed it and have only read The Killing Joke so far, which is much shorter than I remember it being.

Also have you read Sleeper?

Am I that obvious?

I guess I have some undeclared baggage when it comes to Hathaway, she destroyed my favourite book The Devil Wears Prada, and I just fear that Nolans promise of keeping Batman ultra-realistic falls at her toothy hurdle. There's no way someone like her would become a vigilante dressed in a cat-suit.

Bane still sounds terrible.

He sounds even worse. You can tell the voice over was tacked on and detatched as if the actor wasn't watching the film while reading the lines in the studio

There's no way someone like Katie Holmes would be a district attorney but Nolan finds a way.

I agree, especially is first line: "I am Gothams reckoning?"

Like, it sounds like he's asking a question. Sound mixing is off for him too, he sounds way louder than he should be (and not in a shouty way.)

Still I'm just glad I can actually understand him. Had to have someone tell me what he said in the last trailer.

I understood him perfectly in the first trailer, but my parents had no idea what he was saying - even after seeing the trailer in the theater.

Re-dubbing dialogue is often not final in film/television trailers, and often changes in the final cut; Aragorn's speech in ROTK is perhaps one of the biggest examples of this. Nolan and his sound editors certainly have multiple takes to choose from, and I would hope that the lackluster stuff we heard in this trailer will not make it to the theatrical cut.

Indeed. I remember Harry's "You know you had this coming, Pete" sounding horrrrriiiible in the first trailer it was in. Final version was perfectly fine though.

I doubt they'll make many changes now, though. Maybe they will, but I remember the effects and post-prod work being pretty much done for TDK by the time the third trailer released.

yeah, the prologue in theaters was the worst.  I didn't understand it until I saw the cam version.  that's one reason I think it might play better in theaters.  I'll find out saturday or whenever I see the avengers.

I still don't know if he says "When Gotham is ashes" or "When Gotham is in ashes."

seriously, the prologue was really bad.  The back and forth with Carcetti was almost comedic.  It's like the teacher from Charlie Brown.

How is this theory plausible? What is this theory anyway? Azrael doesn't have a police link apart from being a security guard at Wayne Enterprises at some point. I guess being a master assassin it's plausible he could take an alias to do what needs to be done, I don't see them giving Azrael the win over Bane after having pushed Batman for two and a half movies though.

Yeah the Batman concept has been bigger than Bruce for ages, would be nice to have that sort of conclusion. Him being Robin is out of the question, Azrael unlikely. Maybe they are planning to make him a Bullock like character that begrudgingly realizes Batman is needed, but fights crime in his own way. If Batman is broken by Bane early on as I suspect he will be the character through whom you experience the Bane that will run Gotham. He doesnt need to be the Batman really, and everyman would suffice and indeed put over how terrifying Bane and his lackies are better.

Aragorn's speech in ROTK is perhaps one of the biggest examples of this.

One of the biggest, and worst, examples, you mean.  The trailer dub was so much better than what was included in the film.

comedy films I've seen & liked:
-In the Loop
-Knocked Up
-Death at a Funeral (original version)
-Hot Fuzz & 1st hour of Shaun of the Dead
-Clerks & the Kevin Smith movies that used to be funny
-Blazing Saddles & most of the classic Mel Brooks stuff
-A bunch of 80s and 90s classic comedies

Hmmm, already getting hard because so many comedies are consistently not funny  :(  I guess the first Harold & Kumar was ok funny, as were most of the other Apatow ones.  But looking for something quality that will keep you laughing the whole time.

The Innkeepers

F U TI WEST.  STOP FREAKING ME OUT GODDAMNIT.

I've seen dozens and dozens of horror films, but fuck fuck fuck this was scary when it got scary.  Even The House of the Devil which was freaky and scary in the end after all the build up doesn't have shit on this movie's tension.  First time in a decade I pussied out and turned on the lights to finish the film.  Maybe it just freaks me out more because ghosts freak me out and I always feel like my bedrooms are haunted and see things out of the corner of my eye.  The tension in this movie was craaaazy.

Main pair were good.  Guy was believable and girl was cute.

But I have a question about the story:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
When the actress does the seance she says there's 3 spirits in the house.  That something terrible happened and to not open the basement.  That they want to live.  Is there ever an explanation for this?  In the end when the ghosts appear it seems like the story goes like the tale, that the bride killed herself and still haunts the basement and now her groom kills himself and joins her as a ghost.  This doesn't explain the 3 spirits at all, so I'm confused about that part.  Did the medium make that story up to try to warn the girl not to go in the basement because she saw that she would die down there?

the Minneapolis International Film Festival is wrapping up, and I saw some moving pictures.  In descending order of greatness.

Sleepless Night (France) - a tightly wound crime thriller about a dirty-ish cop trying to to exchange his kidnapped son for a duffel bag of heroin amongst a nest of villains in a overcrowded nightclub.  With so many warring parties and such a big setting it becomes almost like a traditional door slamming farce, but with a way higher body count.  Lots of fun, highly recommended.

Headshot (Thailand) - a morose crime thriller about a clean cop who becomes a hitman and the debilitating and eventually beneficial brain injury he suffers.  Plays a little like a Johnnie To film, which I freaking love.  Awfully nice cinematography to go with its low-key style.

Smuggler (Japan) - based on a manga and proud of it.  This ultra violent, ultra goofy crime comedy plays like a Japanese Guy Ritchie movie, with all the weirdness that such a description would imply.  If you ever watched Audition and said "Hey, why isn't this endless torture funnier?"  This film is for YOU.

Rent-A-Cat (Japan) - strange little comedy about a lonely women who spread love throughout the world to other lonely people by loaning them cats.  Its chock full of cute cat reaction shots, and tells its episodic story in a rather predictable manner, but eventually works its way up to being a curiously affective tale about the disappointments of life and the small gestures we make to counter them.  Also, lots of cute widdle kitties are here.

Kill List (UK) - a domestic drama that turns into a crime drama that turns into a very bizarre horror film.  It don't make a lick of sense, but its clearly not meant to.  The film works well enough while you're watching it, but if you feel kinda peeved directly after the ending, well, you and most of my theater's audience would go along with that.

V/H/S (USA) - I'll be honest, I had a lot of shit to do that night, and the first 20 minutes just weren't doing it for me so I took off.  I know it would have gotten better later on, as its an anthology horror film and the justly loved Ti West handled a segment.  But the deliberately abrasive characters and the extra-shaky first person camera movements were a bit too much for me.  And also, that shit I had to do that night.

I guess the viewer isn't hand-held in the context of plot, but to me that's refreshing change. And the hammer scene, oy vey. Anyway, show me something thats American, and made in the last 5 years thats such an affecting film please. The hunchback scene seems to piss alot of people off, but I loved it, especially the crown.

Yeah its not perfect, but it is chock full of fantastic scenes, and is well acted.
