The first third of that trailer could have come from some 80s kid movie.

The other two-thirds could have come from some 00's DTV trash.

Honestly the trailer doesn't show enough to form an opinion. It gives a few hints that it might be a convoluted mess for an action movie but that could go either way.

Yeah, this is me. The Nice Guys was so good. He completely gets how to do comedy.

Maybe The Predator is secretly an awesome comedy.

Reading the Gummo screenplay (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0571210023/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apu_i_1Jq9AbWY775XA ) and it is amazing. I can finally read about some of the material in the never-released Diary of Anne Frank part 2. The very first scene in the screenplay is the infamous blackface scene!

anything with her in it is 'cheap'. the perception she brings to anything she's involved with should automatically disqualify her from being hired. yet, here she is .

Game Night is great in the Harold and Kumar sense. It looks like a cash grab, but there's actually some surprisingly fun shit in it. Doesn't stop it from being as forgettable as basically every comedy for the last three decades, though.

From my viewing I felt it was pretty dense, as far as laugh per minutes. It is pretty Harold and Kumar'ish but it worked without the particular age group gross out stoner angle for me. As a comedy a couple of bits have stuck with me, like the bullet retieval, the computer room scene, and the finale scenes. I felt it was evolutionary in the genre.

I thought it was good but 'evolutionary' seems like high praise. it's a strong dark comedy but I don't see it turning the dial too much a la The Hangover

Rachel McAdams was the wrong choice for this. And Bateman... his acting ways isn't novel or funny to me anymore since he plays the same person in every single thing he's in.

I've never been a fan of comedies that try to stuff as many gags and jokes per min as possible. It creates fatigue. I've already forgotten anything that made me laugh from the movie.

I didn't see Red Dragon but Manhunter is surprisingly good.

Yup. Michael Mann visuals, better music choices, and interesting take on Lecter by… was it Brian Cox? Tom Noonan was the killer, IIRC. Good stuff.

Idk, probably not. I've never seen it and it sounds awful. I'll probably check out Manhunter again as I don't think I've seen it since it was on TV around the time Red Dragon came out in theaters. Then, in a few months, maybe I'll get around to the show.

It really is terrible. Harris only wrote the book because there was a contractually obligated prequel film and he was worried they'd do it without him. It might be worth watching before the show if only to see how much better the show handles the material. The show itself gets kinda goofy by the end, but it's stylized in a way that's very enjoyable.

After that it sort of devolves unfortunately into a cg action fest which I hate in all these Marvel movies. The physicality and traditional action scenes are replaced by computer animated weightless action schlock. Every super-hero movie I've seen in recent years does this. Thor Ragnorak, Wonderman, etc. Everytime this happens I'm reminded of how much I prefer to watch super hero action in animation rather than live action. Funny enough I enjoyed the action scenes without Black Panther the most like when the ladies fought. Because they were less inclined to CG it up and instead rely on choreography.

Basically I liked the parts of the movie that showed Wakanda and built out the backstory of that place and the sort of the internal conflicts of the characters. I didn't like the parts where it was like every super hero movie where a guy puts on a suit and beats up a bad guy in the action overload part of the movie.

I liked it less than Logan. About the same as Wonderwomen. More than Thor Ragnorak.

Bryan Singer directed most of it, but got kicked out near the end of filming. It was finished up by Dexter Fletcher. The Director's Guild says only one director can be named, so apparently they haven't decided whose name to stick on it yet.

One part of the Black Panther action scene problem that irks me is that final fight that people complain about that is NOT the bad CGI.

They set up this: BP and Killmonger are fighting on a train track with a train periodically running through that interrupts the fight. Okay, so how is that supposed to be done? Brutal fierce fights that are brief with interruptions of the train where you get the sense of tension as the two fighters wait.

But what you get instead is a cut up version of that spliced between two other action scenes and all the tension and atmosphere is lost. So even if the CGI was better, it'd still play poorly because the fight needed all the focus and instead the focus was all over the place, which just deemphasized any narrative or meaning behind the protagonist/antagonist conflict.
