Tomb Raider: I don't understand the point of taking a game full of 'movie-like' cinema scenes and then making a live-action movie out of it. Just seems pointless.
This was OK at best (if you want to be nice) and didn't really have much going for it. They changed up the story so that it's more personal and centered around the Croft family- Lara's father disappeared seven years ago while searching for the island in the game and she refuses to sign the papers declaring him dead and getting all his assets, including his huge company. The film spends way too much time trying to show that Lara is a "rebel" and does MMA, bicycle chases, and other stuff that really doesn't factor into the plot of the movie or even get called back later on in the film.
Then she goes to the island and learns her dad is alive and it was all a ploy to stop the bad guys from reaching the tomb of Himiko, who is a "biological weapon." Gone are all her friends from the game; instead there's one lone Chinese guy who takes her to the island and is her buddy instead. She still fights lots of dudes, but they're all from a company and not in some kind of Himiko cult. One thing that is just like the game is Lara going from being scared and helpless to badass Rambo-like killer.

Makes zero sense.
The best thing in the movie is the Nick Frost cameo where he plays a guy running a pawn shop.
It's a pretty forgettable movie, except for one thing- the ending makes Lara look like a total dumb-ass.

Turns out that a woman who works for the Croft company and has been trying to get Lara to sign the papers giving her control is actually the head baddie funding the guys on the island. It's fine that Lara doesn't realize this until the end of the movie, but where she's a moron is that she recalls signing a bunch of papers that clearly state that she is giving this woman control over everything. So the bad guy actually wins and it's established that Lara knew what she was signing and did it anyway despite suspecting this lady was up to something.
This is how the movie ends.
