Yes, that's what's been dominating the box office for a decade+, though.

...and what blockbuster movie hasn't been exactly that for the past 10+ years?

 ::)

At least those usually can keep me awake. This was literally like 2 hours of women dancing and shooting with like no plot or characters.

Its just a turd of a movie.

Sucker Punch was just a totally vapid movie. Like a 2 hour+ music video with no substance at all. Was bored out of my mind the entire time.

It has substance, though. It’s BAD substance. It’s the difference between eating a marshmallow, which has negligible nutritional value, and a piece of meat with botulism, which can make you ill.

Suckerpunch is a movie that professes to be about a young woman’s struggle for independence after her abusive, child molesting father has her locked up in an asylum. The men in the asylum also apparently are abusive and sexually assault the patients. The presentation of her escape from that reality is for the young girl to instead dream of being a stripper in a dancing club. If this isn’t far enough off base for a feminist message, the next level of dissociative escape for her is to become part of an elite fighting force, excepting that she is wearing a school girl’s uniform with a skirt that falls just barely covering her rump, and garters.

Out of nowhere, Zak then declares that Babydoll isn’t actually the main character of the film, like some preening narcissist waiting for you to tell him how clever he is.

Garbage. Flaming garbage.

But at least it has cool action scenes and plenty of style.

Compare that to a complete turd like The Rise of Skywalker, which had boring action scenes, an incoherent plot, an antagonist that didn't exist in the previous two films being magically resurrected in the intro crawl, wooden performances from almost every single actor, awful direction and an absolute boring sense of style.

Sucker Punch isn't great, but is completely undeserving of the level of hate it gets.

On December 14, Fortnite's publisher Epic Games released a preview of the film on an in-game theater screen as a live event.[108] At the end of the event, a message from Palpatine (the one mentioned in the film's opening crawl) was heard.[109]

Leave it there...for your own sanity. Better yet, imagine your own fan service version of what happened in those two films, then add yourself into the lead role so you can live out your LARP Star Wars fantasy, take the script and mix the pages up, then shit on the film from a great height and it will still be better than what they actually released.

Would take this if it was a slapstick comedy modelled on the Three Stooges. Or maybe if they went for a juvenile gross out comedy.

Watched Army of the Dead and it was...ok. Waaaaaaaaaaay better than Spiral Book of Saw. Army is overlong and the script, while being a vast improvement in Snyder's writing ability since Sucker Punch, doesn't really know what to do with itself in the last hour and just kinda falls flat. I actually thought the first 90 mins were a solid zombie flick that has some nice visuals. But the last hour is sorta just empty and uninteresting.

It's still fine, just not a great movie. If Spiral was like a 1.5/4 this is like a 2.5/4 or 3/4 maybe.

I think some of the negativity to Army of the Dead is people expecting a heist movie, when it's not really a heist movie and just a zombie flick.

Most interesting Marvel film in a while. Can't find myself caring much about Black Widow or Shang-Chi, but I'll be there day 1 for Eternals. Movie I'm most excited about in 2021. That cast is  :hyper and those visuals are  :o

Like a Marvel movie would be anything else.

I like going into stuff without trailers that give the whole thing away so I'm fine with this teaser. Probably won't watch anymore trailers until I see it. This teaser is enough to get me interested.

If you think of it as purely a Samurai film, I thought The Wolverine was pretty good. That counts as X-men I suppose. It's really not that hard to make good comic book films. You just need good actors and good directors and good written material.

I thought Army of the Dead was ok.....

I didn't hate it and was actually enjoying the first half, pretty much up until they got to the city. After that, it lost me. I don't know it just seemed like it didn't know how to combine the different plotlines. The whole daughter thing was very stupid and feels pretty pointless. The characters had enough personality for a zombie heist movie, but then the heist pretty much doesn't really happen.

I don't know, it had a good premise. Just felt like it didn't all come together.

The TV show's side characters were good... as side characters.
He was carrying that show 90% of the times.

I'll say i enjoyed the remake of Evil Dead with Jane Levy though, so i trust Raimi to do something decent at least.

Those Who Wish Me Dead was pretty ok. Just a short action thriller. Good performances, pretty well directed and good cinematography. It's short and shallow, but entertaining. Kinda surprised this has a lower RT than Army of the Dead. It's definitely a better film.

I liked it more than Taylor Sheridan's last directing attempt with Wind River.

Finally watched Prospect the Pedro Pascal alien planet survival movie.

Pros:
+Cinematography was damn good. Did not expect this movie to look so nice.
+Everything felt very alien, kinda like Star Wars but moreso
+Music was good too

Cons:
-Story was kinda boring. It was ok, but I just found the whole movie sorta uninteresting and a bit slow.

I'd watch whatever these guys do next though, kinda surprised they don't have any new projects listed since this came out in 2018. You'd think Marvel or someone would snatch them up for something bigger.

The film doesn't sound too horrible, from a couple of reviews (in fact i quite like the look of it), but goddamn, the idea itself is such a dumb reach.
Also they should just prevent the use of pointless cgi like this, it's just gross looking and creates trashy over designed action choreography.
Just get some trained dogs and have them chase the actor around, ffs.

Disney/Marvel don't know how to make movies any other way:

“And I had to keep saying, ‘This is right out of a camera; there’s no VFX work to this at all!’” Feige says. “Because it was a beautiful sunset, with perfect waves and mist coming up from the shore on this giant cliffside — really impressive stuff.” Later, watching “Nomadland,” he saw similar shots. “Oh! That is not just what she wanted to bring to Marvel,” he remembers thinking. “This is a signature style.”

Saw King Otto at the cinema last night.

Documentary about Otto Rehhagel who was the coach of the Greek national football team that won Euro 2004 - also known as the biggest upset in sporting history.

Nice little documentary that focuses on the man himself rather than the action on the field. Fascinating personality and a great sporting story.

If you like sports documentaries, I recommend it highly.

Picked up Hitchcock's Rear Window and Vertigo in Ultra HD (was available for a while in a boxed set but Psycho didn't come with the original audio mix so I waited).

Rear Window's image quality is mostly solid though occasionally has shots with a noticeable drop in fidelity (sometimes even within certain scenes). Vertigo's image quality is consistent and excellent all through. Love the film's lingering mood.

Glad to return to them after forgetting just enough of the details.

Fast and Furious 9 has been out in some countries for a week or two now.  Thought I'd see how schlocky and stupid it was, and wow, they really have exceeded expectations.  The movie appears to be heavy on retcons from all the flashbacks it has.

Spoilers!

spoiler (click to show/hide)

Seriously, these are spoilers!

spoiler (click to show/hide)
-The opening scene is said to be super-ridiculous, even for FF standards, with "car-fu" shit that is just unbelievably cheesy and impossible.  Can't wait!  :lol

-Han's return is explained by ANOTHER retcon of his death scene- this has now been changed to show that Han was never even in the car that Deckard Shaw destroys.  Instead, he was recruited by Mr. Nobody was watching his "death" with him on the street.  Then he becomes an agent and has to pretend to be dead for whatever reason.  Apparently all of this is just being explained via a voiceover from Kurt Russell(?) and they don't show who was in the car that got destroyed or if it was empty or whatever the hell it's now supposed to be.
:dead

-Jakob is never mentioned in the other movies because RETCON!  In a flashback, before their father dies in a race, Jakob does something to the engine which makes his car lose control.  Dom hates him and they have a race/falling out where the loser has to leave and never come back.  This is retconned again by the end of the movie to make it so that Jakob was told to do this by his father (wat) because he had a bunch of debts and wanted to go out so his kids would have "better lives" (WAT).

-Jakob, in what is pretty much par for the course in these movies, gets a face turn of sorts at the end and drives off in a car Dom gives him.  Presumably to return and be part of the family in the next two movies.  :doge

-Roman and Tej meet up with the Tokyo Drift crew and modify a car with rockets so that they can go into space to destroy a satellite.  They are then rescued by the ISS and make it back to earth for the end scene.
:neogaf

-There is a tribute to Paul Walker at the very end- they are all meeting up at Dom's house (wasn't it blown up in a previous movie?) for a barbecue and Dom mentions that they can't start eating because there's an empty seat.  Then a car drives up (we don't see the driver) and he has a big smile.  The end.

-Post credits has Deckard Shaw in a cameo.  He answers the door and it's Han.

Seen some people saying this might be the worst one of these movies to date.  Can't wait for the cheese!

Well this is shit, so apparently Jeremy Saulnier's latest movie (financed by Netflix) starring Jon Boyega just got shutdown with Boyega exiting. And credible rumors popped up 11 days prior that Boyega was doing the Josh Trank excess house destroying partying to the point he was getting canned, and then this blind item was posted before the story broke, so it seems pretty credible.

Sucks because I like Boyega, but I really like Saulnier (Blue Ruin, Green Room, Murder Party, Hold the Dark, TD S3 Ep1 & Ep2). And after his bad luck of parting ways on TD S3 after ep2 instead of doing the whole season, having his next project get canned after a couple years of work is gonna be pretty shit.

Also from earlier today. New Neil Blomkamp movie:

I like Blomkamp and I like horror and I like sci-fi horror, so now I'm looking forward to this.
