Saw Edge of Darkness. Extremely satisfied.
I thought the movie had some really terrible pacing in spots.  When it was good, it was really fucking good.  When it was slow, it was Grandma at the grocery store slow.

Still a good movie.

The pacing was pretty wacky, but I'm sure it's because transferring a TV miniseries into a film always ends up coming out really strange. I was expecting pacing issues though, so I enjoyed the film anyways.

i just watched Hardware

my 16 year old self probably would have loved this as it was built on new school british metal, industrial music, cyberpunk and post apocalyptic scenes with some great music built in

but the movie goes from awesome to horrible to shit to utter shit to total pretty good to fucking awful.  the limitations really do count against it, unfortunately and i was unable to look past them in this instance

I watched Man on Wire and Tyson the other night. I'd see Man on Wire before, but it's one of those docs that you can watch over and over. Tyson was pretty interesting.

I thought Man on a Wire was really well put together.  Very entertaining and powerful.
Tyson was good though I kept thinking how everytime anything bad for Tyson came up he'd always spin it like crazy to avoid responsibility.  Like "yeah...I don't really remember what happened then"  :lol  Definitely feel bad for the guy though, especially after his daughter died  :(

Once I do I'll probably just make a thread saying how much it sucks, get flamed, leave EB for 6 months and come back.

It's visually breathtaking but my God does it go on forever and horrible things keep happening. Not entertaining horrible things, mind you.

Whoever hates on Amelie can fuck off.
Amelie is a great movie. Fuck off, haters.
My brethren. Amelie is just about perfect.

The only good thing about Smokin Aces was Alicia Keys in that wig
::drool:: Yeah, she's very hot in that movie. She's gorgeous in general, but they missed a bet by not just having her running around in that wig for the whole movie. And dropping all the other characters. What a crap movie; I saw it on Guam during a two-day trip. It only cost four bucks, there wasn't much else to do, and I still felt like I'd wasted my time.

(Image removed from quote.)

The Chaser just became the very best movie I've ever seen about a pimp (sorry Street Smart), or a pimp/ex dirty cop if you want to get technical about it.  That pimp puts his skills to use to find out why all his girls keep disappearing, and to where, and what does that ultra-creepy dude with the horrifying bathroom/murder chamber has to do with it all.

There's no unearned sentiment, there's just a hard-edged thriller that plays out kinda like a cop movie without an actual cop protagonist.  There's nothing particularly flashy, but all the elements congeal into a frequently gasp-inducing whole.  The remake rights have been bought by Warner Bros., but its unlikely that they would make a version as intense, as gritty, as morally teetering as this film is, or just as freaking excellent.  Bottom line - See This Movie.

****

I just watched this and wasn't that impressed.  It was a very solid thriller, but pretty standard.  Nothing really stood out to me.  Neither the directing nor the story.  I mean it's a fine, entertaining thriller and I'd give it 3/4 stars, but I feel like I've seen this movie a dozen times before and it didn't do anything to make it unique.  I watched this instead of playing 2 hours of DQVI and I feel like I made the wrong choice -_-

I guess I'm not big on thrillers.  The only ones that have stood out to me in the last decade were Tell No One & Seven.

Watched the director's cut of WATCHMEN. I was mostly happily surprised, but thought it had some troubles with bad Nixon makeup and CG that managed to make Dr. Manhattan's dangling participle more believable than his lipsynch. Other than that, it was really pretty.

I thought it was a nasty trick to put an advertisement pamphlet for An Even More Exclusive Edition inside the case of The Director's Cut.  ::)

Just watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Much better than UP, and I love Pixar to death. Anderson nailed it, and good claymation never ceases to knock my fucking socks right off. Coraline was also an excellent movie. I hope claymation catches on again.

I thought it was really well done. Like was said in a Cracked article, last year in movies was about directors making movies that kind of epitomized their body of work up to this point. You had Anderson stretching out his legs with FMF, the Coens' going superjew in A Serious Man, and James Cameron well...yeah.

Watched Penny Dreadful last night. Felt way too long, like a short dragged out to qualify for full length status, but it was genuinely chilling at times. Rachel Miner is good at playing hazy chicks with baggage.

That said, it all felt rather well planned and executed for being the work of a escaped mental hospital patient.

The whole thing is like a retelling of Job. Read that, then you'll understand the movie like a billion times more. Or not. I haven't, and I still enjoyed the film.

Like 98% of everything in Coen films is allusion and symbolism.

I think I have ADD bad.  Its been a problem lately while trying to watch movies. I'm getting so lost so easily.  I tried watching Munich today.  So, like, they ran into the enemy at the safe house?  What?  Did the bomb defuser commit suicide?   Why were the main character's nightmares photographic recounts of the munich murders? Was he there?  Maybe I need to try to watch it again.  The subtitles weren't very friendly either.  White text on predominantly bright backgrounds.
