I thought Donnie Darko kind of sucked. For all this Internet tripe that Richard Kelly is so talented, his last flick showcased that he's not very good.

Maybe its just nostalgia talking too, I mean I was like 8 when T2 came out, and I think I watched it when I was 10/12 or something. It made a huge impression. I mean if I watched Avatar when I was 10/12 I prob would think it was one of the best action movies ever too and it would have made a huge impression.

I think comparing Avatar to Terminator 2 is an insult to Terminator 2. I mean, at least with the Terminator series, Cameron was smart enough to steal from talented people - not Disney animation.

I have heard from good sources that have actually seen the movie that it is contrived and silly, with neat special effects - but with a story so simplified that it'd be better suited for Dreamworks Animation.

I agree with this.

Plus it stars Zooey "Rod Blagojevich with long hair" Deschanel, which might be the most overrated female celebrity out there, next to Cameron Diaz and Sarah Jessica Parker.

I can't fathom that at all. The only time I listened to the blues was on the Friday after a work week. I'd play an Internet stream of the blues through my surround sound system, and sit on my balcony drinking scotch and smoking a cigar as I watched the sun set over Los Angeles. Those were my favorite times.

A friend brought over THIS IS IT, the most ironically named concert movie of all time. The best part is the opening sequence: footage of the primary dancers who will perform with MJ during the concerts. They are all so genuinely moved and inspired by MJ as a performer that it is difficult not to get caught up in their enthusiasm. The sequence is really the only part where the documentary risks becoming maudlin over his death; the rest of the movie is solely focused on showing just how crazy-much MJ was putting into making an astounding show. It was also interesting to see Michael getting so much effortless grace out there on the stage. There are a couple spots where he sings, and it's just insane how acrobatic his voice is, all the while his feet are doing something that I can't even follow. The movie does a good job of showing what a consummate performer was lost.

I was supposed to go see Avatar with Reno on Sunday, but ended up going and drinking too much wine and eating too much pork instead. Fair trade, from the looks of things.

It was pretty amazing to see in IMAX.  It was a lot better than I actually thought it would be and it never even mentions his death.  I thought it was going to be a bunch of sappy interviews and shit, but they avoided it.  It's a generally upbeat movie.  And Goddamn he still had it :rock

I thought they both agreed at the end of Eternal Sunshine that they weren't compatible?  Like, that it was important to not erase your previous relationships from your mind because they taught you something about yourself?

Anyway, Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino.  I think Clint Eastwood movies have to be taken in small doses.  You're essentially getting the same character in any movie Eastwood is in.  And the final act of Million Dollar Baby is almost unbearable.  It just seems to drag on to an inevitable conclusion.

No, that is not what happens. They get together again without realizing what had happened in the past. When they accidentally play the tape, Kate says something like "We're just going to fight again and drive each other crazy." And Jim Carrey says "Okay." Okay as in "who cares about that shit, we have each other." It's a happy ending.
