Nice to know Tangled won't be terrible. Everything from the name change to the trailers screamed dogshit. Kind of seems like a kneejerk reaction to Princess and the Frog's underperformance.

No one likes Aladdin anymore. The DVD sold so poorly they replaced it in the Diamond line with Fantasia/Fantasia 2000.

Beauty and the Beast is so superior to Aladdin it's not even funny. It's like comparing a classic Disney animated movie (Beauty) to a Saturday morning cartoon (Aladdin).

Holy shit  :lol

I haven't seen Aladdin in years but you're right

Secret of Kells.  You have netflix instant streaming? Watch it. Don't question me. Little short but awesomely paced. Kinda reminds me of tartakovsky's art except not bad.

The Secret of Kells

The story and characters are a bit thin here, but that's more than made up for the music and the overall look of the movie [which are both just absolutely astounding]. The way it looks and animated actually reminds me of something like Samurai Jack, but far less restrained and with more money to work with. It moves along at a nice pace, although the ending comes a bit too fast [could have used another 10 or 15 minutes, I think], but that's a minor gripe and really the only one that I could even think of leveling at it. The fusion of Irish mythology and religious undertones is great and allows the animators to do some great imagery, especially in the forest scenes where the movie truly shines [and in the Viking attack towards the end, which is far darker than any other part of the movie]. And you can't go wrong with a lots of Celtic music. It's nothing deep, but it is really, really good.

MacGruber was hit/miss for me, long periods of not laughing, then gasping for air during the awkward sex scenes.

I have a feeling it will be much more fun to watch with with a group and a few drinks, as opposed to solo.

Tim Burton has realized that he can continually put less and less effort into his films while still getting large box office revenues. He's on cruise control now and will be for a long, long time until people finally realize he's probably the most overrated director in Hollywood.

It amazes me he is still somehow going UP in terms of boxoffice success. He did some really good movies in the 80's-early 90's like Beetlejuice, Peewee, Ed Wood...etc. but it's been over 15 years since he came close to that.

Um.  Impeccable in pretty much every way.  It felt like a stage play in how no scene is wasted.  Nothing wastes your time.  I was surprised at how short it was actually.  I'm used to dragged out shit and when he went into the office I expected another act, but nope.  Roll credits.  Al Pacino was good.  Jack Lemmon was amazing in this.  Kevin Spacey was also fucking awesome.  Just a great fucking movie in every way.  Wow.

Aside from Ronald D. Moore working on the script and that chick from Scott Pilgrim in one of the lead roles, a lot of nobodies.

Let Me In is only $10 million behind its budget and should still make a bit more money before its done [before any international release], Scott Pilgrim is $17 million in the red [even with international box office]

So they are making an Uncharted movie and Nathan Fillion wants to be Drake.  Now if that happens, they can also try and get Bruce Campbell to play Sully and that woman from Veronica Mars to play Elena.  It will be the ultimate nerd movie! it even has the potential to bomb harder than Scott Pilgrim!

link? I'm a bit flustered right now

Quote
While Tom Hardy's plan to play Mad Max in the George Miller-directed Mad Max: Fury Road has hit another delay, the fast-rising Hardy's in the mix for another big film at Warner Bros. I'm told that Hardy has been set by his Inception director Chris Nolan for a lead role in the next Batman film at Warner Bros. Insiders are keeping the role secret and won't even say if he's up for a villain role, but that seems a reasonable assumption. Hardy has followed up Inception with lead roles in the Tomas Alfredson-directed adaptation of the John Le Carre novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and he's currently starring with Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon in the McG-directed Fox comedy This Means War. CAA reps Hardy, who's expected to return to Fury Road when it goes

a lead role :omg

The scuttlebutt is that the film begins with people finding out that Bruce is Batman.  Both him and Alfred have reconstructive surgery; this is when Hardy takes over as Batman.  Alfred's operation failed and he becomes a fat black mechanic played by Prop Joe.

I'd almost rather see him play a non-costumed role which I think would fit in Nolan's world, but to make it a "lead-role" they'd pretty much have to write out or demote Oldman/Caine/Freeman.

Black Mask, Hush, or characters like that would be cool because it would mean he would interact with both Bruce Wayne and Batman.

one issue about him playing a cop or lawyer is that Batman already had Cop and Lawyer pals in the last two movies with Gordon and Dent.  I'm talking out of my ass.  Anything can happen.  I just want flashback scenes with Katie Holmes playing Rachael to fuck with people's heads.

The Good The Bad The Weird

So good. Not really a traditional western [since it's set in central China during the Japanese invasion], but it does feature and play with a lot of the tropes. Much of its run time [which is a bit on the long side] is taken up by some fairly impressive action scenes. It's nothing new, nothing that's going to break out of the genre and do something new and different, it's just good fun that moves at a quick pace from beginning to end.

I would be a bigger problem is the movie took itself overly seriously or had lots of melodrama, but it moves along pretty well and doesn't linger too long on the slower scenes. Some of the action scenes could've been trimmed down though.

District 9 was amazing for the action scenes and finally seeing a decent take on aliens.  Everything outside the plot and action was merely okay.  I still loved it though.  I'd love to see what he can do with a serious budget and a lot of studio backing.
